Can you? Certainly...would I? Never...my definition of street friendly is very strict in that it needs to handle well in tight spots (parking lots). I don't like the idea of chewing up my expensive tires that wrap my 18x11 rear wheels...

Can you daily drive it? sure you can.
I would not want to pay for the tires though.

I have a spool in my weekend/fun car and it's not too bad. I would not want to drive it every day though just for the driveability issues, not to mention chewing up tires all the time.

My buddy has 99 t/a that he was running a ford 9" with a 3.89 spool. He bought my old bike last year and he gave me his car for the weekend while he took the bike b/c he couldn't pay till monday. well lets just say that after the weekend I was glad to give the car back. Driving around town with that spool sucked. I hated it. He said the same thing about chewing the tires. He has gone back to his stock 10 bolt and going to a 12 bolt I guess.

spools dont chew up tires NEARLY as much as people think!! your can daily drive a spool as long as you dont mind the turning radius and the slipping of the inside wheel that comes with it.

i agree with with ls1 girlfriend, iv had my 9in with spool in going on 3 years now. and i tell ya what in a 6 speed car after going threw 4 10bolts in a not even a year. you will like the idea going ot the track and launching at 6000+ rpms and not woring about a rear to break. only time you can tell its in the car is in a parking lot or drive ways. all so if you run a tire like the MT street radail or nitto, it will hardly chatter. and mine dont eat tires that bad, my heavy foot is what eats my tires worse

I guess what you can take away from this thread is that if you live at the drag strip, and only care about straight line performance, a spool is probably your best option due to its damn near indestructable nature. If you expect your car to take corners worth a damn, stick with a posi.

Spool shouldn't have an impact on your ability to launch on the street...that's gonna depend on your tires. Since there's no way you'll be doing a one-wheel-peel with a spool (like you would with a worn out posi), if anything, it should help you out.

Long story but in the last 6months ive had a 9inch with a detroit locker, spool, and tru-trac. Lots of money to figure out what i liked. The locker imo was the worst invention ever, the spool was next and it wasnt bad at all. The only problem was it would eat up tires like none other. I ended up with the tru-trac. It feel like a stock posi unit. I love it and would never get anything else.
