wines on decel?
wines on decel? i just had a shop rebuild my entire 10 bolt. The only old parts are the axels. While i was in there i figured i would get my 3.23 swapped for some 3.73(a4). The gears have a bad wine or howl above 55 mph but only on slight acceleration(just giving it enough gas to maintain speed) as soon as i let off the gas it stops howling , what could cause this?
i just had same deal actually had 3.23's in my 00 ws6 a4 and started howling really bad so i tore it down expecting it to be the pinion bearing but it was the gears themselves 6 teeth on the pinion gear started cracking at the base. So i put all new bearings and seals and stepped it up to 3.73 gears and now have a very light howl. I patterned and shimmed the gears myself and they are where they need to be and torqued the pinion nut according to spec so I think ill just live with it unless it gets louder. Gears are from Richmond

Otherwise the gears are set up improperly.
