Default 4.10s or 3.73s??

Ive read most of the threads on the 1st page and I havent found the right answer.

My car has a 150 shot of nitrous, lid, TB, and will have true duals fairly soon. And I will be putting a head/cam combo sometime.

The car will be used mostly on the street, sometimes at the track..

Oh and BTW I have a M6.

Thanks

What tires will you be running at the track? Meaning diameter? I couldn't make it through the 1320 with my 4.10s on the juice without shifting to 5th. In fact, it BARELY made it on motor as the car trapped 113 with bolt-ons.

I would still get 4.10s though, cause they are the perfect gear for street and track/fun use. If you get really serious about the track times then you can get some tires to allow you to spray without shifting to 5th. Even after the heads/cam you'll be able to finish in 4th cause of the higher redline. I now trap 122 on motor, not outta gear yet and I'm on 315/35/17 Nitto drag radials.

3.73's for H/C Nitrous M6 running 275/40 17"s to get through the traps in 1/4......will be a great gear for the street on the spray.

you might be able to get through the traps with 3.90's.....i run a small cam only with 125shot and get through the traps ok on 275/40 17 tire.

4.10's would be perfect with no spray at the track.

I rarley go to the track. So the car is drivin on the street 99% of the time.

What would my top speed be in 1st gear with 4.10s?

I don't know how big your cam is but with my little 224 cam I can tell I need more gear around town. The 3.73s tend to bog the car once in a while. If you plan to run H/C spray with 17s you probobly won't hook anyway but I'd go 3.90s. You could run 4.10s with either a really high rev limiter or just shift into 5th.

I don't know about this. I have 4.10's in my M6 and with street tires, it's way too easy to light the tires up. It sounds real mean but really isn't going anywhere. If I had it to do over again, I might go with the 3.70's I've read now that Motive is making a 3.90 for the 7.5 10 bolt. That just might be a great compromise.

Anyhow, trying to get out of the hole, and I mean easing the clutch out, it's just impossible to keep the tires from going up in smoke. I think I'd rather have a little less gear on street tires with primarily street driving. Just my $0.02.

I don't think traction issues should determind gears. thats why I got sticky tires. Hell I can light up 3:73 like no other, so i'm gonna switch to 3:08's?

No. You're being silly. Traction issues certainly play a role in gear selection. With street tires and mostly street driving, you have to compromise to get the best result. I would say that I was probably faster with my 3.42 gears because I didn't have any problem getting the car rolling. Right now, I can try to ease out of the hole and there just isn't a range in 1st gear at which I can go full throttle w/o loosing traction, and going to 2nd gear isn't much better. Some of us don't have any interest in running around on stickies. When some *** pulls up along side you and gives you a little crap, what r u gonna say? "Stay right here, I have to go home and get my stickies." And if you light up the tires really bad with 3.73's, a 3.08 setup just might bust your ***. I've run everything from 3.08's to 5.14's on my street/strip cars through the years. It's all about traction first and about who gets to the end first. If you light 'em up and I don't, I WIN. PERIOD.
