I just bought a used 7.5 gov lock 3 series differential out of a 99 camaro. I have a 2002 camaro z28 and I was wondering if it will hold up. My car is about 400 wrp with 3.73 gears and nitto drag radials so what you think? I don't know what type of differential was in my car but it looked strong, it had one big gear in the middle and about 6-8 smaller gears around it. I gave it hell and never had any problems with it. The only reason it's broke is because I hydroplaned my car backwards into a curve at 50 mph which broke some pinion teeth off, and shoved the axles into the differential. I like to dirve my car hard so do you think the gov lock style differential will take the abuse?

Not sure what you mean by gov lock...is it aftermarket, or an auburn? What you have is the torsen, it is kind of a POS after some abuse.

Gov-Loc is an older stle posi unit which ingages and disingages using a fly weight. I had one in my 91 RS but that car was stock and didnt have much power, I have heard they they work well in stock applications but i have never heard of anone putting seriouls power through them. IMO the torsen is much better and does not have clutches which can wear away.

You could have stopped after you said 7.5".
