I've never heard of 3.90's for a 7.5" 10-bolt. I've installed Motive 3.90s in C5/C6 Vettes, Mustangs, 12-bolt & 9 inch, but that is it. If they do make them for a 7.5, that would be really nice!
Do you have a link?

They are out there, fairly new. They came out about a year ago or so.

i just ordered my motive 4:10's from texas speed along with a ta gridle, stud kit, and complete install kit. they said the only motive gears the sell are in the blue and black box. i called motive and they said i will not have any problems with these gears the only difference he said is that they performance gears are tripple lapped, some coating to make them a little quiter. but he did reccomend a solid pinion spacer. so i guess i have to order that now too? and he said that break in is 750 miles

I just picked up the new Motive catalog, and it explains the difference. The orange box Motive performance gears are made of a harder, higher quality 8620 steel, where the blue box Motives are not.
Also, it DOES have a listing for the 3.90 ratio

Don't worry about the solid pinion spacer. However, I recommend a GM crush sleeve, NOT the one in the kit. The one in the kit crushes way easier than the GM one. It seems to be that if it takes more effort to crush, that it would be more solid.

well what should i do with the gears then? i bought them as their ring and pinion package? i only want to do this once? i already ordered a solid pinion spacer .why wouldn't you want to use that? that's as solid as your gonna get.

The material (8620) is the same for all the motive gear non-pro gear stuff, but the performance stuff is "cleaner". Either will be fine as long as they are set up properly. The performance stuff is easier to set up though and are less prone to noise.
Although we didnt get a lot of the blue box gears back either.

motive gears are the quietest gears you can get on a budget, my buddy has them in his 10bolt and loves them.

I worked for the full time for about 6 years, and part time after I joined the fire department for another 6 until recently. Could probably go back but I got a better side job. It was a great place to work for though, and they do make a great product. Most people dont realize how many other gear "brands" are actually just reboxed Motive stuff. Cant tell you who, but the point is there stuff is proven and everywhere. Has been used in NASCAR, ARCA, NHRA, IHRA, NMRA, on and on.

Find a new mechanic. I have Motive 3.73's in my A4-equipped 'bird, and they're great.

Get a few heat cycles in them and allow them to cool without any extended highway driving. New bearings and gears generate a lot of heat, that is why you cycle them. I have done 3 cycles (drive 15-20 minutes of stop and go or slow cruise, then cool for a couple of hours) and taken them to the track, but you should probably do at least a couple of hundred miles. For a tow vehicle or heavy vehicle the break in is crucial.

thanks alot, i have 2 more questions. first what weight oil would you reccomend the 75/90 or the 85/140 non synthetic what are the advantages of both weight oils. second is a solid pinion spacer worth it to install? thanks again for the help.

Yes on the solid spacer, helps a lot with deflection. As far as weight of lube, depends on climate and conditions. The heavier oil is good for high temps the lighter stuff is good for cold. I usually run lighter weight lube with limited slips myself, but it is best to go with what the diff manufacturer says (auburn, torsen etc.)
