Default Those with 4:10s....

You guys who are running 4:10s (or 4:11, which ever one is GM) and have a T-56, what are you revving at in 6th gear? just a little curious because I'm think of putting some new gears in my Trans Am. Thanks

You can calculate this mathematically by deviding the number of feet in a mile 5280 by the circumfrence of your rear tires and multiplying that by your rear gear ratio. That will be your rpm at 60 mph in 4th. Next multiply your mph in 4th by your 6th gear ratio. ex:

5280 / (26 X 3.14 / 12) = 776 = number of tire revolutions per mile for 26" tire

776 X 4.11 = 3191 rpm at 60mph in 4th (1:1)

3191 X .52 =1659 rpm at 60 in 6th assuming a .52 6th gear ratio.

to get rpm at 70, just multiply result by 70 then devide by 60.

rpm at 70 would be 1936 rpm.

u can also do it mathmaticaly based upon what gears you have now and your current RPM vs. what gears you are going to buy you have 3 of 4 varibles right there, if you took algebra in 7th grade you got this no sweat

well thankjs for the info guys. I just didnt feel like doing math. BUt I have another question. It seems like with 4:11s you would have to shift into 5th in the quarter mile? Do you hit the rev limiter in the quarter in 4th?

depending again on tire, and max rpm of the motor before hitting the limiter, Ive seen cars doing high 120's mph before hitting the limiter. These are TH400 cars but still in the same concept that their 3rd is your 4th.

no - 4.10's are perfectly suited to a stock motor, 6spd car with a stock sized (26") tire on it.

the car in sig originally had 4.10's on nittos on stock wheels, full weight, headers/y-pipe lid and free mods.

12.5@112 w/ a 1.8x 60'

i think the rpm's were -approaching- 6k rpm in the traps...

X = RPM's
Y = Current Gears
Z = New gears

(x/y)z = Bingo

Say you have 3.42's and your going to 4.10's and at 60mph with your 3.42's you tack out at 1,500

1500 devided by 3.42 = 438

Now multiply 438 x 4.10 = 1800

Works with any RPM, works with any trans speed, works with any Ring & pinion, you can play with it all night, you can show your friends, wonderful thing that basic math. I hear their even useing it in engineering now a days... Dont be afraid to use that public school education most of us slept through, may as well use it. Remember those days you asked your teacher when you needed Algebra in real life, well he should of said for your T/A bitch!

Anyway, all belitteling of the mathmaticly challenged aside, 4.10's rock out in an M6, gets you through the traps where you want to be. I reccomend them or 3.90's depending on your driving situation, get them now they are fun

increase the peace

The chart I have shows 111 mph in 4th gear @ 6000 rpm's with stock height tires.

well that wouldnt be good then. I hit 107 in the quarter now. Although I did change to wheels/tires that are over 1/2" taller.

I was touching the (stock setting) limiter a few feet before the line, with Nitto DRs (275/40 17s), in 4th, 4.10s, minor bolt ons (maybe 325 rwhp, if I'm lucky), for my 12.67 @ ~ 113 run. If you keep the stock limiter setting, it really depends on your trap speed, which is dependent on the power your making at a given RPM in fourth.
