Backlash has an effect on drag of hypoid gear sets, differenttypes of gear sets require different increments of backlash. Stock gears are set as low as 0.002" where aftermarket sets can go as high as 0.012" I could only assume that would be the factor right there. Chances are that if you are going from Stock GM 273"s 323's or 342's and setting up 4.10"s that the 4.10's would be aftermarket resulting in a different backlash. In the artical did it say anything about this?

I know that when we dyno'd my friends 99 HOSS after putting in the 4.10's it showed a 10hp loss, but the car picked up about 5mph and dropped 7tenths in the 1/4 mile (13.9 stock, 13.2 with 4.10's).
LPE Cam and longtubes dropped the ET to 12.01.

The drop in your 60' has been proven to offset w/e you lose in peak HP. If that wasn't true, people would go slower when doing a gear swap, not faster

Uhm... no.
And that link to the 'basic principals or power-loss determination' has nothing to do with hypoid/complex helical gear sets.

I did 4.10's at the same time as my Spec stage 3 clutch with billet steel flywheel & and LS6 intake and put down the same rwhp. so I assumed I lost whatever the LS6 gained me. roughly 10rwhp?

For all of you that have dropped your gears, how is it on the freeway? I drive my car around alot, but was thinking of 3.73's or even 4.10's if it isn't going to affect my driveability and freeway mileage that bad
