strange 12bolt making alot of noise
i have a strange 12bolt in my 92 and its always made noise since i got it but i didnt think anything of it, but today it started making a discusting noise on coasting. im pretty sure the ring and pinion are not set up properly. what should i do? does strange have any kind of warrenty? i hardly ever drive the car and they already replaced the pinion seal under warrantry.....

Noise is a common problem with a 12-bolt, especially after hard launches. Mine is noisy while coasting, but not too bad under acceleration or deceleration. I've learned to live with it.
Since the pinion seal has been replaced, the first I would do is check the pinion nut & see if it has backed off at all. If it has backed off, either use some red loctite on it or peen the nut with a ***** punch.
Hope this helps.

Yup... Strange or Moser for that reason. Around these parts, it is a common occurance.
I forgot to put a smilely in there... as not to single out your reference to the 12 by itself.

yea i had a 20 minute conversation with strange and they said because of aftermarket torque arm and bushings the noise would be louder. but i had all that crap with my 10bolt. so im going to try the thicker fluid and see if it quiets down.

A properly set up rear really shouldn't make much noise at all. If something is out of alighment though, or if its improperly set up, the noise will be very apparent.
I'd have a reputable shop that is experienced with rear ends take it apart and have a look.

GMfan, do you have a Strange or Moser 12-bolt in an F-body?

Neither, I still have the stock 10 bolt

Unfortunately, like we've discossed before, F-body 12-bolts just seem to be noisy. Some people have had them checked and redone, only to have the same condition afterwards. I think "should" is the proper word to use, any rear end "should" be quiet when set up properly, for some reason these 12-bolts get the best of us.
