Default would I need a 12-bolt?

I'm looking to put a set of stage 2 H/C from MTI on a 98 WS6 with ~60K miles on it. I figure I'd drive it until the clutch goes out and replace that with a Mcleod single disc setup, but what about the rear-end. Do I need to get a 12-bolt Moser rear-end? How much damage would be caused if the rear end failed?

Thanks in advance.

What kind of driving do you plan to do and what kind of traction will you have?

Moving to "Transmission and Gearing"... <img border="0" alt="[Burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />

I don't plan on taking it to the track, but I would like to cook some rice every now and then.

I think your rear-end will live a little while as long as you don't run slicks, just because the stock clutch will absorb most of the power and shock. When you replace the clutch though, it WILL break eventually.

What kind of hp and tq can the stock rear end usually handle? I won't be running slicks, at the very most I'll be using sticky nittos and only on the street. I don't plan on going to the track, I just want a quick stoplight car and that's how I'll drive it.

I figure on about 400-450 rwhp.

Also, if the rear will go out eventually, should I go ahead and replace it early? What I mean is, when it goes out what kind of damage will it cause?

Thanks guys and gals,

Russ

Not too much damage...just imagine if you took the rear cover off and threw a hand-grenade in there...thats what it would look like. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" />

There was supposed to be a hint of sarcasm there... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Hah! <img border="0" alt="[jester]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" /> For some reason the idea of tossing a hand grenade in the rear makes me laugh! It's funny to say "not much damage" and "grenade" in the same sentence. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

So I guess I'll just do the H/C plus bolt-ons to get to about 400hp and when the clutch and rear end go out, replace them. Gotta remember to keep a few thousand in reserve for that!

Nate, it was the sarcasm that made me laugh <img border="0" alt="[jester]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" />

I had this picture in my head of some non-techie reading this post with a real confused look on his face <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> hehe.
