Default moser 9 inch failure

Man i dont know if i have the worst luck in the world or what! about 6 months ago i picked up a moser 9 from epp
when it arrived i thought all of my problems were solved. first thing bad was a bent end where the brakes bolt up i fixed that next one of the seals was leaking i fixed that. then i took one good track run and the front pinion bearing came apart and the front seal came out. that trashed my gears and pretty much the whole third member. my stock rear lasted 7 years my moser lasted 50 miles. anyways i let bob know and he said he would take care of it.

has anybody else had this type of problem?

I've had a few bad heat treated gears go out and come back but besides that I haven't had a single bearing failure. Probably just an isolated incident, it happens, not often but it happens.

I'll get you the return authorization number first thing this morning when I get to the shop. Hopefully we can make this a quick turn around for you. As I mentioned in my e-mails to you, we very seldom ever have a problem with the Moser nine inch rears, and I just hate it that you have had these problems. Bob

Hello again Bob. We did find a bit of damage to the pinion cover where the
bearing was seated. The gears are bad for sure as well as the bearings. the
truetrac appears to be ok but after passing metal through I don't know for
sure if it will hold up. My mechanic recommends sending the whole thing back
so you and Moser can find the cause of the failure. My problem is that I
don't want to have the car down for a month but at this point I guess I
don't have a choice.
I must say though I did not expect to get this much help from you I
was ready to answer questions and accusations about my setup and install
process as well as pinion angle settings. I guess im just used to dealing
with the wrong type of people. I do appreciate your professionalism with
this situation. Please let me know what our next step is here bob. I will be
going out of town on Thursday until Monday so if we could figure it out
before then that would be a great help to me. Once again thank you and talk
to you soon.

Martin, give me a call as soon as you can. 260 244-4808. Thanks! Bob

The Moser 9" in my Formula is no kidding, 7 years old. I had problems in the beginning with the gears being super nosy, so I ended up buying a used center section and that one has been fine for years. Good luck, sounds like maybe a bearing failed or something.

my moser was very noisy also. i wonder if its the type of gear. i had a loud vibration when i let off the gas that i thought was my torque arm but im starting to think it was the pinion.

Sounds like a pinion nut that backed off... and that was just the start.

I'm impressed with EPP on this deal. Not too many vendors would handle this situation like they have. I bought my 9" directly from Moser, and am glad to hear they stand by their 5 year warranty.

i talked with moser today. they are going to make me pay for parts. he said because it was over 90 days. kinda shitty because there were really no miles on the thing and it sat in my garage for 90 days waiting for suspension parts. im sure they could tell there was no wear other than the damage from the failure. but the way i look at it i wanted to change gear ratio on it anyways so it would have cost me close to that to do it. i was kinda pissed off for a while but i need to get back on the road.

oh and they say they dont know the cause of the failure.

Wow am I glad I went with DLS instead of Moser direct. From everything I read on this forum it appears that Moser as a company must be like the blind leading the blind...on crack.
