Default I need a TC...which one?

My 00' convertible Z28 (3600lbs.) has a Stealth airbox and Hooker catback with 3:23 gearing. I live/drive at 5,000-10,000' so my car is a little down on power from average. As it stands now with the stock converter, I can barely chirp the tires on takeoff and it seems a little lazy until about 3k rpm. I'm thinking of maybe the Vig2800 or something along that line. Too tame maybe? I'm thinking on the not-too-loose side because of the type of driving we do often...extended uphill twisty mountain road stuff. I also really don't want to spend more than $600.
Thanks

A vig 2800 will be a big help. TCS also makes a good selection. A little more STR might help if you have traction. Be sure to get a cooler if you have long uphill runs.

Well, you'll have to look for a used yank or vig for less than 600.00. You could get a TCI SSF3500 for 502.00 delivered or a Midwest from HPA for less than 500.00. HPA will custom make your TC based on your needs(better punch below 3k and your extended mountain driving) and car's mods and allow you to settle on a STR suited to your situation. If you do a search for MidWest converters on this site you will find plenty of info.

Thanks for the replies. I've been reading good things about Midwest and it seems like a custom job would be best for my circumstances. I'll post what they say as far as how high a STR they suggest for me.

Thanks Mike. That sounds interesting. How long have you had the vig and what's the STR? I'm getting different opinions as to what route I should take. Yanks says SS3600/2.0 and HPA (Midwest) is thinking 3000/2.5 . Gonna do some more researching.

I got a Vig 2800 a few weeks ago and so far it has performed flawlessly.

Where are you at in N. CO?

I've had it for over 2 years. I don't know the STR, I think it's 2.0. I've never had a problem with this converter and it's very streetable.

Topfueluhl, I live in Loveland. Been here about three years now from Houston. I saw your post concerning the Vig2800...I can tell you like it! I'm wondering what it would be like with my gearing(3.23). My car's kinda sleepy out of the hole...was yours like that before the vig? Do you notice a nice extra kick from say 20 to 60mph? Who did the install?

My car was very weak off the line, especially with the 2.73's, not anymore.

Your car would not be sleepy out of the hole anymore with a Vig 2800. And yes, there is extra kick just about any MPH you punch it now.

A guy down in Lakewood did the install for $200. Have you ever checked out coloradof-body.com? His name is stroked30th over there (mine is the same as here).

Thanks. I have checked out that site. I talked to a mechanic today that will do the install for about $215. I'm kinda leaning towards the TCS in about a 3000/2.1 . I talked to them today and the price was right...especially with all they offer as far as warranty and restalls go. Nothing but great reviews for these units. Probably order one tommorow.
