Default Going from 2.73 to 3.73...what to expect???

My mods are in my sig. Naturally, with the Yank SS3600, Im really anxious to get some gears in there so the car wont feel so sluggish down low. Anyway, we are talking a whole revolution difference in gear ratio. So what should I expect?

I'm doing the same thing to my 2002 Z. Where are you having the work done and what posi and gear manufacture are you using? I have already picked up a brand new Auburn diff and I have a Predator for the computer reprogramming. I'm in Williamsburg...

better/faster acceleration, lower e.t's, lower gas mileage (just a tad) and a big smile.

The gears I'm interested in are AAM, which are supposibly the same gears used by OEM GM. Virginia Speed in Va Beach is the only place I have contacted. Does anyone else in the Tidewater area have any installation recommendations?

I went from 2.73's to 3.73's.. because you have a stall the ET's won't drop a whole lot from the gear change but seat of the pants it will feel a ton faster. With my 3600 stall I only saw .1 better Et but did pickup 2mph probably due to the 2.73's shift just before the traps. added benefit was much cooler trans temps (converter slips less and is tighter) and a better feel driving it in traffic.

wither a good stall in the car the engine stays in the power band already so a gear change won't do as much.

with a 2.73 gear, at 1:1 ratio, witch is 3rd gear in the A4 tranny, you go all the way up to 150-155 mph at redline, when you change your rear gear to a 3.73, it has to drop that mph signifigantly, my question is, at that mph, which when i figured it out seemed to be around 113, does it shift into the 4th gear or overdrive gear, and continue to accelerate at WOT?

If you are WOT the trans won't shift into overdrive

ok so what that basically means is if i put 3.73's in my car, with the same tire size, then at wot my car will only go to 113 mph, which would be its 3rd gear redline limit. I have a hard time beliving every other f body with a 2.73-3.73 swap cant go past 113 unless there not at wot.

I'm pretty shure the stock tune has a "Lift to shift" 3-4. You have to back off the throttle (I think around 50% throttle) when you near redline in 3rd. It will then shift into 4th and you can go back to WOT.

ok so what your saying is that theres a tune that can tune that option out?, and it will go directly into 4th gear even at wot?????

another question is, is it actually a 4th gear, or, is it electronic, like it locks the converter or sumshit.

Let me clear up what I meant. The car will shift into 4th gear at WOT but the torque converter will not lock up (go into overdrive).

ok, then my question to you is after 3rd gear in the a4, what happens? does it shift into a new gear and lock the converter, that doesnt seem like what happens.... maybe the converter never even locks up.... idk if its an actuall other gear, or just the converter locking....

But for the person who said they put in 3.90's into there a4, what is your top speed... and what did u do with the computer

but even you (i forgot your name as im writing this who told me about the skip shift) have 3.73's what do you do when you go fast, when u stey on the pedal, how fast do you go before you have to go into 4th gear.
