There is no need to run water over it... Thats a terrible idea.. Many times when a housing is new the studs are pointed every which direction and once you struggle through the first install they will line themselves up.. use a dead blow or rubber mallet to gently tap the gear in or use a small square to see if the studs are square with the gasket surface you can tap them around to help out just dont knock them loose

I tend to agree with CTS on this here . Its never easy the first time . Rubber mallet or a dead bow will work wonders.

yeah i was afraid to hit it with a rubber mallet because i dont want to mess the threads up. but it seems to be the top and bottom thread beacuse it will rock left to right and clear the threads just fine but not the top or bottom. i was thinging of taking a 3/8 or 7/16 bit and making one of the hole a lottle bit bigger what do you guys think is that a stupid idea?

Heh...I ran into the same thing just a few minute ago. I'll deal with it next week, now, it's time to watch some football!

Good luck with yours.

So, the heat had nothing to do w/the condition of your parts?

the first time after putting studs in a case there always like that, its easier the next time since after you tighten them up they all pull in straight.

I actually had the same issue the other day. I knocked the hell out of it with a rubber mallet also. Glad to see I'm not the only one

I was going to ream the holes a bit but in the end I just banged it on there using a block of wood and a BFH. The hardened bolts did the reaming themselves.

they always need a little persuasion the first time, but nothing a rubber mallet wouldn't move on the holes that don't line up 100%, just a nice light tap would move the studs around
