Default Part number location?

I bought a used Auburn LSD differential to upgrade my brother's 1996 Camaro RS which currently has an open differential with 3.08 gears.

I just need to know if this is a 2 series or 3 series carrier so we know what gears to buy.

Does anyone know where the part #'s are on these things?

It has a bunch of numbers on it, but the only one that brought up anything was the 4612825 US Patent number.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You might have to make a call to Auburn and have them tell you the series and spline count as well. You can also dissassemble the 10 bolt and stand the 2 side by side on a flat bench or piece of steel. Your 3.08 is the 2 series and if the Auburn is .250" taller then it is the 3 series.

Thanks Scott. I figured I'd have to call Auburn anyways.

I know it is a 28 spline though.

Can anyone verify this now? Ive found a Auburn carrier that has 13/42 labeled on the ring gear so I know its a 3 series but is it the good auburn carrier or the non wanted one. The only #'s besides those gear ratio I can find is 4612825. It was removed from an V6 firebird so im not sure if its a posi or not
