Moser 12 bolt/4.11's the battle of the whine
I have a 2001 SS putting 440 to the rear wheels. Not necessary to list all that makes that happen - its obvious.
Car built by Mikey at RapidMotorSports - the builds do not come any better than that.
Rear whined from jump street.
After a couple years and a re-interest in the car, I decided it was time to freshen things. New clutch, fix a pinion seal leak AND maybe quiet the rear-end.
So, I started the research.
I have spoken to Mikey. I have spoken (at length) with BOTH Tech Support at Moser and Motive.
ALL have told me that basically with a high horse power car and all that comes with that.
Moser 12 bolt, Eaton Posi 33 spline,4.11's, Adjustable Spohn Torque Arm bolted to the SFC's.
Forget about this thing being quiet. Ain't gonna happen.
Before anyone jumps on that comment... that was Moser AND Motive saying that.
The gears will whine and everything else (hollow tubes ALL bolted from the Hollow Diff to the floor of the car) are going to act as a harmonic tuning fork amplifing and transmitting that amplified noise to the passenger cabin.
You have to believe someone at some point and I have now heard it from more than one source that if anything - would have more to gain from lying and saying "sure they will be quiet IF the Tech sets them up right"
Quite the opposite. They told the truth (IMO) yes, I'd like to hear different.
At this point, I think it is nature of the beast. I have modded many many muscle cars and 4x4's - in every case, when I went after market "more" (more, strength, power or performance) = I gave something up.
Either noises or vibrations or both always have been a bi-product of the build.
Moral of the story, If one wants stock comfort - then leave it stock.
If you want more - you are going to get more (of everything).
Just a real life opinion from someone that has also built or had built many vehicles.
Take it for what it's worth.
