Friend is trying to sell a rear end out of a 99 v6 firebird, he said was posi. I was thinking about picking it up as a spare. Is there any way short of popping the cover off to see. The car had really low miles, and was one of the nicer v6 cars with the ground effects and whatnot. Also wondering what gears it would have, its an auto. Just curious if anyone had ran across one before, Thanks

Just look at the RPO code of his firebird. Yes some firebirds/camaros do come with torsen posi. Most of them if not all, come in a Y87 package. RPO code Y87.

Not true. Last couple of model years some cars came with the Torsen for no reason. I owned a 2000 that had it listed as a no cost option, and it was not a Y87 car.

it just needs a G80 code. Y87 code is the G80, GU6 i think(3.42 rear) plus the dual exhaust and Z steering. G80 is limited slip.

Mine came one wheel peel style but Im waiting on delivery of my Torsen. Also make sure which carrier it is. If its a 3.08 gear, it uses a 2 series carrier. And a 3.23/3.42 uses a 3 series. You gotta make sure you get the same carrier as your rear.
