Default Auburn Pro in a series 2

I currently have a 2.73 ABC/TCS rear end, with auburn posi. My posi is shot.

Someone is selling a Auburn Pro and 3.42s both for a series 3. Can i put these in my rear (that sounded funnny)? Or would i need some other parts (Spacer?) to make this work? I am assuming mine is a series 2 since its a 2.73.

Thanks.

Not sure on the posi. However, if you put a series 3 set of gears in a series 2 carrier, you must use a spacer.
AFA your rear, well, let's leave that undisturbed.

Ok..so..mine is a four channel (ABS and TCS), series 2, with 2.73 gears..(Posi is shot)

The unit i am looking at is:
Auburn Gear Pro Series GM 7.5" & 7.625" 3.23 & Up 28 Spl 1988 to Present
542046
Auburn Gear Pro Series GM 7.5" & 7.625" 3.23 & Up 28 Spl 1988 to Present. NOTE: This unit will accept an ABS Tone Ring

And he has 3.42 that were installed on it. Can i drop that into my my rear?

Sorry about all the questions...

Yes you can. ALL 7.5" 10 bolt rear housings will except ANY 2 or 3 series 7.5" 10 bolt carrier/posi as long as its got the proper 2 or 3 series gear attached to it.

All gears 3.08 and LOWER are 2 series.

All gears 3.23 and HIGHER are 3 series.

If you want to put his Auburn Pro Series w/ 3.42's gears on it into your car that currently has 2.73's and thus a 2 series carrier, you just need to replace the entire carrier which has the posi unit built into it.

Just do yourself a favour, if youve never set up gears before which i gather you havent, dont attempt it yourself. Go to some shops and get quotes from them.

Thanks for the info.

And i will not be doing this myself. Have a local guy that has built a handful of cars that will be doing all my stuff over winter.

Have already got a cam just waiting to go into it too. Might do a stall too if i can find the funds.

Thanks for the help!
