Default Which one? 12 bolt or 9in?

I'm trying to decide on a new rearend but I'm not really sure what I need. My car is a 2000 Z28 6 speed with TCS. What all would you recommend? I'm not sure what options I need. Can I use the 9in if I have TCS? Which one is lighter? Let me know all the details you can. Thanks alot.

TCS is not available on the 9", as per Moser. If you want to keep it, go with a 12 bolt. You can make a 9" lighter than a 12 bolt with an all aluminum center section.

How much lighter would the 9in be? Would it be enough to justify lossing my TCS? I'm just looking to build a nice streetable car. Not an all out race car. What all options would you recommend for a nice 12 bolt setup? Let me know because I am clueless on this. Thanks alot.

ABS and TSC are available on a 9", only if you have 4-ch. ABS, which you do if you have TSC. I have both on my car as well. A 9" with the AL center section will be about the same weight as a 12-bolt. For a true street car I would recommend the 12-bolt though. It would be a little lighter, for the same money, and the 12-bolts will lose less horsepower then the 9" will, not to mention they are a little easier to install. Hope this helps....

I tell you, if there's a company out there that employs total morons for customer service reps it's Moser. You can call there 5 times, and get 5 different answers to the same question. It is nice to find out that you can get TCS with the 9". Thanks Paul!

Ok, a few more questions. The Complete 12-Bolt includes the following: M/E Custom Alloy Axles, wheel bearings, wheel studs, retainer plates, Eaton Posi (30 spline), Pro Street gears, 1350 series pinion yoke, chrome cover and assembly.

Will the performance TA cover help any?

I need the 4-channel ABS setup right? Does this include the TCS?

Should I get the exciter rings installed on the axles?

Why would I need a 33 spline posi? What is the difference in this and the 30 spline that comes with it?

Thanks for all the help. I'm now getting my education on rearends. It's the one thing about my car that I know nothing about but I'm learning. Thanks again.

"You can make a 9" lighter than a 12 bolt with an all aluminum center section."

I had a Moser 9" WITH the aluminum center section. Now I have a Moser 12-bolt. This 12-bolt is both stronger and lighter than my Moser 9". Ask Moser, they'll tell you.

Opt for the T/A cover if you choose. but it isn't going to do much more then hold your gear oil in.

Oh Yeah, tell Moser you want the exciter rings pressed on by them. Unless you have access to a torch to heat the rings up and press them on yourself.

I'm running a Moser 12-bolt w/3.73's and a T/A cover...its seen its hard launches off of trans brakes, no problems so far...except maybe the pinion seal...

Extra piece of mind. 31s will go a long way though. That's what I've always run with no problems in my 9 second car. It'll have 33s from here on out though.

would the 31 spline be fine for a mild street car? I'm most likely never gonna run anywhere near 9 sec quarters! Thanks alot.

Sure, like I said, I never had any troubles with them running 9s. I'm changing them to 33s for extra piece of mind when running 8s, although I feel the 31s would still be up to the task.

BR makes a nice 12 bolt that comes in at 135# with a spool/light weight axles. What does the 9" with alum chunk/spool come in at, 170#? The BR 12 bolt seems like the hot ticket for mostly drag cars to me.
