Default 99 Z28 auto with 2.73's - Suggestions for new gears???

I want to keep the car as a daily driver, but am looking for better seat of the pants acceleration.

I won't be racing the car, but looking for a little more oomph off the line.

I would still like to maintain decent gas milage, and be able to easily cruise at 75-80 all day.

Im sure this has been discussed before, but didn't find it in my search.

How about some recommondations/feedback for a new set of gears for me???

Thanks!!!!

I wouldnt touch gears yet, just to a torque converter. Youll be happy with the seat of the pants feel.

2.73's plus stall=very loose feeling when driving around town. I actually got better gas mileage when I had my 4.10's!! It feels great when you floor but just driving around can be a little loose.

I have 2.73's and a 3500 stall. Just saving my bucks to get a better rear end(I have busted 2 already).

I just went from 2.73s to 3.42s w/A4.It's like driving a totally different car,i'm turning 1900 rpms @ 60 mph and 2200 rpms @ 70 mph.I haven't checked my mileage yet,i'm not to concerned about mileage with 3.42s.

Seems to be a very good combination for the A4.I love my 3.42s

Yea....i have a A4, Vig3600 stall, and 2.73s its great when you punch it but around town its really loose. Im goin for 3.42s just got to save up some cash.

thats my 2 cents

I have exactly your car.

I went with 373s and a SY 3500 stall with a shift kit.

The combo is NOT loose at all.

Highway rpms are great unless you drive over 120 mph

i had 3.23's in mine with a vig. 2600 verter, it wasn't too bad. then i put 4.10's in it and wow. i pull about 3000 rpm's doing 80 and tapped out my speedo the other day and didn't even push 6000 rpm's when i did that and still get just about 20 mpg city.

2.73's + 3500 stall = 26 mpg highway for me. Great off the line, in fact could use more rubber than the 245 / 50 / 16's I'm running. The "loose" factor doesn't bother me any more. *** kicking even at a 60 mph punch. Won't go the long haul with an M6, but I don't drive that fast these days anyway. If I made a change it would be to 3.42's and wider tires. (with my same converter)

Yea I just had my Vig 3200 installed and I have 2.73 gears. It does feel really loose and doggish around town (sounds like a manual car 2), but once you give it a little punch it hops!

I just got 3:73's and WOW compared to the 3:23. Got to take it easy with street tires but with slics it really hooks up. I need a higher stall TC though. YANK recommends Street/strip 3500. I do 3000 Rpm at 80 mph. Buries the speedo at 5800 Rpm

A good 2800 - 3300 stall converter will meet your needs better than gears. It will get you off the line much quicker and cure the 1-2 upshift dead spot. your highway miles will be unchanged.

3.42s are a good performance/highway rpm compromise. switching to 3.73s will feel like you lost OD on the highway.

I have the Vig3200 stall and its great even with the 2.73 gears, made a huge difference. I'm getting 3.73 gears put in on wednesday so it should be pretty fun driving around on street tires. If you want good gas mileagejust get a converter, it really picks up on acceleration and it locks up just like the factory conver so you can still get the same mpg on the highway.

I have whats in my sig... and I just bought a 3.42 rear Actually I just about to post a thread to see who has this set up and if they like it or not. Either way the 2.73 are way to doggish out of the hole!!! Although I say this and I cant keep the tires from frying if I spank it off of the line

I agree,2.73s are doggish out of the hole.I learned to hate the 2.73s they suck.I really like the 3.42s however, i'm already considering 3.73s

Dude, get off my setup :pGive me a PM when you get it to the track on some decent tires. I wanna know what the difference between the Vig and my Yank is. Thanks.
