Talk to Eric at Midwest Chassis & Performance, he makes some mean custom 9 inches and i hear nothing but good about him and his work. He can set up a rearend that is lighter, stronger, and cheaper than the Moser 9". Just shoot him a pm and he will be happy to help.

I'd say it looks good for a weekend warrior, or you could do the new Moser M9. Bob

did you miss the aluminum spool listed??? anyone who knows much about this or these cars would not run an aluminum spool. it would last a few passes maybe, before the splines rip out of it. a weekend warrior car is still gonna be driven on the street more than likely, and that makes it even worse.

i would question the feasability of the star flanged axles for anything driven on the street. Moser offers a axle flange that has lightening holes that would be a better alternative than a star flange for any amount of street use.

also, a lightened gear is for two different applications. 1) drag car with a pro series gear. 2) circle track cars that are lighter and don't stress the components like street or strip cars.

this would be a whole different scenario if you were not driving on the steet, and was in a car that is under 2500 pounds.

I did a 35 spline moser with a locker and a strange pro case on my daily driver. So far, I'm happy with it. Lightened axles and especially an aluminum spool wouldnt be reliable long term on the street. Spools, from what I've read here, tend to wear tires fast, especially DR's. If you wanted an aluminum cener section, I'd go with the moser bolt through. It has more material then the strange and with much in street miles, would be good for peace of mind. I'm guessing no one even makes star flange street axles do they? Maybe gun drilling would be ok though. Its only $100 extra from moser.

Gundrilling would save you a few pounds without sacrificing much strength. If it were me, I'd choose gundrilling and a moser aluminum centersection over spool, star flanges, and/or lightened gears.... Thats if I was absolutely set on weight. Since I was on the street though, I didnt concern myself with weight issues.

M9 Rearend
Moser Aluminum Housing
35 Spline Steel Spool
Standard Gear
35 Spline Axle - Gun Drill and Star Flange
This would be the ultimate "Weekend Warrior"

With your HP rating this setup should be more than enough for you. Check out our website and let me know if we can be of any assistance.

depends on what you wanna spend...

based on your inputs, my fabricated housing setup would be the best. its the lightest, and the strongest of all of the 9 inch stuff out there. and its priced better, too.

nothing wrong with the spool... it will wear tires faster, but you're not gonna put that many miles on it anyway. soft compound tires will not make noise on the street with the spool.

the Strange aluminum case will be fine, but the Moser thru-bolt will be a tad stronger. the Strange ultra case beats the pants off all of them. i can do a ultra case for only 175.00 more than the Moser would normally cost.

street gear if you are gonna do any kind of street use. ratio won't matter... whatever your car needs.

the 35 spline axles are a good choice. best bang for the buck is the 5 hole lightened flange. the gun drilling is fine, but its directly on center... not alot of gains in free power from rotating weight. if you feel it's worth the money, then do both.

my fabricated housings feature 4 hole relocator lca brackets, drain plug, and anti-sway brackets as standard features... no extra cost. tunnel mount or trans xmember mounted torque arms available, as is affordable powdercoating. this setup is by far the best bang for the buck.

pm me for a quote for any rearend combo... fabricated, Strange, or Moser. i have the best deal on all of them.
