Sounds simple but did you check all the bushings & fasteners for the rear axle housing, trailing arms etc.?

Default Car goes CLUNK before it goes VROOOM

It didn't used to do this. If I'm in 1st and going 3k RPM and nail the gas, the car goes CLUNK and then takes off. It doesn't break traction (I'm running Nitto 555R's though). The clunk has just recently started and seems to come from the rear of the car, not the tranny area.

I also get the same noise when slamming 2nd or 3rd gear. Anyone know what this noise could be?

you need a poly torque arm bushing.

Did you find out where the clunk noise came from? I have the same problem. I first switched rear shocks and found the rear right upper rubber bushing on the shock wasn't seated well. After I corrected this then the clunk went away, but returned a few days later. I also found the u-joints hitting on my loudmouth exhuast and I banged a dent on the exhaust pipe and got rid of a rattle, clunk. But the clunk has resumed. I got vaction so I will finally take car into a shop and see what they have to tell me. I've been doing a search on this clunk issue and have read that it could be pinon angle to driveshaft u-joints to the driveshaft itself. I hope to rid of this problem. Once I installed a used performance transmission is when these problems started, I know theres a compromise when doing performance upgrades and I would not trade in my tranny as it kicks ***.

dave carney;
I installed polyurethane bushing for my torque arm and it didn't help get rid of the clunk. But it is a great upgrade to a stock torque arm.

I found it odd too. But still curious as where the clunk came from, don't know if bomax will see this post.

I put in a polyurethane trans mount and its held up to the abuse so far, and the clunk remains when 2nd gear engages for 1 second then all others gears are normal. Sometimes if I try to go really slow it will not make the clunk sound and I have a shift kit stage 3 so yes it supposed to shift hard but not the clunk and im sure it's not the transmission.

update I ran an errand today and then was going to take it to the shop and see what they can find and to my amazment, today, driving for 1 hour around town I heard no clunk, hopefully never again, wish me luck and if bomax is reading this I would still like to know what cause the clunk for you.
