Thats not true either. There is a ttop car out by me and he has a 2.73 gear in the back and his door code is gu2. I checked for him since he could not figure out why his car was such a dog off the line and I tryed to explain it to him and since I also have a 3000stall it made it worse for him

I would definetly get the 3.73s and it will be alot more fun but you will have a hooking problem off the line im sure
did that stall help your stock gears? i heard that if you put a stall on stock gears, results are amazing.

Yea i thought that in the autos 2.73 were standard in z28s and T/As (GU2) then 3.08(GU3) and 3.23 (GU5) were optional. Then in the SS and WS6 autos the 3.23s were standard

don't think i wil go with the 4.10's because i still want some kind of gas mileage. Not looking for a drag car just a nice setup to get up and go.

3.08's were not an option. 2.73's are standard and 3.23's are optional on SS's and WS6's.

I dunno of i still have a scan of the window sticker or not but it shows the optional charge for performange gears 3.23.

Ok so i was wrong about being able to get 3.08s. I did my searching i have found that even though you may have been charged for the purchase (so it looks like it was an option) of the gears it was still a standard feature when you purchased a SS/WS6/Firehawk. So no matter what way you look at it...if it was an A4 ss/ws6/firehawk it has 3.23 in the *** end stock and if it was an M6 ss/ws6/firehawk i came with 3.42s stock.... anybody else agree with me????

hehehehe, was talking to some redneck at the track who was dead convinced I should put some 4.10's in my auto Z28(it has a 3.23 btw). Told him I go to the track about three times a year and do 90% of my driving at 80+mph. Tried to explain to him that 4000rpms and 13mpg sucks, kept saying I'd drop .5 off my times.

3. What is a gear ratio, and how do I know what I have?

If you have a stock vehicle, look for the RPO codes on the door or in the glove box. GU2 = 2.73, GU5 = 3.23 and GU6 = 3.42. A gear ratio is the number of teeth on one gear compared to another. To find the ratio, you divide the number of teeth on the driven gear by the number of teeth on the driving gear. For instance, the number of teeth on a ring (driven) gear is 41. The number of teeth on a pinion (driving) gear is 10. 41 divided by 10 = 4.10.

373s dont help for roll race, all the points where your car downshifts are smaller and 5-10mph less.

I think that is correct. GU5 (3:23) is the performance axle option on A4 cars. All m6's were 3:42. Standard A4 was 2:73. I think the performance axle was part of the SS package.

Besides extending the fluid capacity by 1/2 pint, the TA cover gives significant support to the main bearing caps using two load-bearing bolts(unlike the stocker). It even has an accessible fill and drain plug.

for that kind of money, slap em in the ten bolt and wait till it breaks, if you do ever break it and then get a 12 bolt. Simple as that and thats my current plan
