Default Moser 9" options

Hey guys I need a little help, Im looking around at the 9" rears for my T/A and dont really know what I need or what could benefit me.

Car is an 01 WS6 M6 Bolt on car..for now.Future plans for this year are a 427 making around 500-550 rwhp and maybe a small NO2 shot later. Car is not really a DD but would like to be able to when I want to.

1)Splines...28, 31, 35, 40? What is stronger?What should I need to handle say 650rwhp?
2)Iron or Aluminum 3rd member...Advantages or Disadvantages?
3)Gear Ratios...want to be streetable, maybe buy another 3rd member for track use?
4)Trutrack or locker...I have heard Trutrack is about the best, any opinions?
5)Drain plug...I already know I want this, duh.
6)Powdercoating...if I ave the money at the time I will opt for this.
7)LCA brackets...will opt for these.
8)Backbrace...What is it?How does it work?Do I really need it or maybe a just in case I make it faster later?
9)Anti-roll bar mounts...will opt for these.

I would really appreciate the input guys...Thanks so much!

1)Splines...31 is fine for what you want but 35 is better
2)Iron or Aluminum 3rd member...for the power and weight you probably run iron is fine. only run aluminum if weight is a huge factor or you never drive it.
3)Gear Ratios...auto=3.90 m6 4.10
4)Trutrack or locker...truetrak
6)Powdercoating...yes.
7)LCA brackets...yes.
8)Backbrace...only if you plan on leaving the line at high rmp's. it is nice to have. it is a brace that gets welded on the back all across the housing to help from twisting.
9)Anti-roll bar mounts...just get a drag bar welded up.

just my .02 and my set up except i have a spool.

I would build it like mine. 35 splines, Strange Pro Nodular case, a Detroit Locker. The locker makes some noise but can be run on the street better than a spool. I have 4.30 gears and absolutely love them on the street. Once my H&C and Fast 90/90 goes in I might have to step up to a 28" tall tire at the track. I would diffenatly suggest a Drain and Fill Plug. Skip the powter coating and paint yourself, Mine turned out outstanding and saved me $180. I would also get the relocation brackets added.

35 spline, locker, gear ratio between 3.73 - 4.56 depending on tire size and predicted mph you'll run in the 1/4.

If you plan to drag race I think a back brace is a good option, anti roll bar brackets if you're using an off the shelf anti roll bar, 3 hole relocation brackets are ok, I would try to at least get 4 hole ones if you ever plan on running a tire over 28" tall and lowering the car any.

You're at a point where the Truetrac may not be strong enough for your plans. I would either go with the Locker or with spool. In my opinion the spool is more streetable than the locker, less money and lighter too. Bob

Moser has a new torque arm, I'll get pictures of it and post them up here. It is designed to fit the 10 bolt, 12 bolt and 9 inch rears. Bob

My freind has a 1000HP blown 403. A 9in with an Aluminum 3rd member and Trutrack worked fine for him. Should work anywhere. I would go witha 4.10 or 3.98 ratio. I would go with a Fabed houseing from Midwest Chassis & Performance. Eric does good work and cant beat his price. His set up can be got with torque arm and Aluminum certer section for not much more than a Moser with no torque arm.

there ya go...

i, by far, have the best deals on any rearend and rear suspension parts. top notch quality and several options on parts and configuration. my *real* fabricated 9 inch rearends have standard features that others are charging options for. the deal simply can't be beat.

1) 35
2) Aluminum
3) Thats really up to you. If you are drag racing you need to decide what RPM you want to cross the line, and do the nessacary steps to pick a gear that will put you there.
4) If you like crepes, get a trutrack, if you like pancakes get a locker
5)I'd get one
6) If you have money why not
7) yes
8) You wont need it at your power level, that is extra weight in my opinion.
9) Which roll bar is it?

There are several guys on here who have broken Truetracs with far less than 1000 hp. I simply do not recommend a Truetrac for over 600 rwhp. Bob

^^^I agree 600-650 max on a Truetrac. Anything more go with Detroit Locker or Spool.

I have a friend with 850rwhp going through a Moser 9 inch with a truetrac and he has not had any problems with it launching on big slicks (it is also a six speed car). The 12 bolt truetracs are the ones that seem to have problems with big power. Not saying that all of them will last behind that kind of power, but they seem pretty durable.

Whatever you do, order your rear through Bob at EPP. He will do his best to take care of you if you ever have a problem.

Thanks, I appreciate it! Did you get the new driveshaft yet? Bob

Yes, sorry I meant the driveshaft. I do know they shipped it out to you last week. I should have pictures of the new torque arm today, and of the new lower control arms. We have had them at my shop for several weeks, we've been waiting to install the customer's new Moser nine inch with ABS until we had the brakes figured out. The customer went with some Centerline wheels that had us scrambling to get brakes that would fit. Now that we have brakes that fit, the housing ends are the wrong ones...And this brake company doesn't make ones to fit the standard GM ends! We're picking up another new housing at Moser today that has the Torino/Large Ford ends. Bob
