Default Rear Diff Fluid Change?

Well guys i know the actualy changing of the fluid isnt hard, and i know to use the additive, but i was just wondering how risky it is to change it? I know a lot of people say do it ever 10k miles. A local Gm guy told me that it could possible strain the rear though? The rear seems fine but id like to maintain it if possible. Also, would there be any noticeable changes in better drivability after i did this mantinence? The car has 55xxx miles on it by the way. Thanks for the input.

I don't think you'll notice any difference, atleast I never did.

As for every 10,000 miles.. I haven't heard any given distance and would be interested to know this also.

As for the additive, you should go to your gm dealer and get the best stuff they have... none of that synthetic stuff.

Every 10K is what we recommend to our customers. More frequent oil changes will help the differential last longer.

It doesn't matter, aslong as the additive is added. Just fill till' it overflows-then you know it's full.

Put the additive in first and then fill it with fluid.

Thanks for the advice, i think ill end up doing it your way.
Also, is the RTV silicone aright to use to reseal the drain plug and differential cover? im also planning on using brake fluid to clean in and out the differential cover.
Does anyone know if stealerships keep the additive in stock? I hope so, i want to do this **** tomorrow!

Dealerships do usually stock the additive. I use threadlocker w/teflon for the drain plug.

RTV Silicone is fine, dealer ship has additive in stock, usually not necessary to thread lock fill plug but it does not hurt.

I've heard companys "clam" that you will but I doubt you will notice anything except maybe that the car's posi responds better.

And as far as miles go I changed mine the first time at 18K and the fluid looked new still. But I think that if you did it every 10K it would be good but I dont think thats its nesessary to do it that frequent. But then again Im the type of guy that likes to change the Oil every 2500 miles LOL.

i dont know if anyone knew this but the GM dealers around me say dont use the GM additive, they actually use the FORD additive because they say it holds up longer and is a better product. just throughing that out there to see if anyone had ever heard of that.
