Gear help needed - Strange vs Motive
UPDATE: Thunder is sending me the new gears and paying for shipping both ways.
I ordered the gear package from Thunder Racing last week: 4.10s for the stock rear end, upgrade from Motive to Strange gears for $25.
Well, they charged me for the Strange gears but the sent me the Motives! I checked the packing list, and sure enough - first line - Strange 4.10s.
This sucks. Does anyone know how much weaker the Motives are compared to the Strange gears. The guy at Thunder told me there was a 'big' difference. Strange themselves says the gears are good for 300 RWHP (yay).
I want to know if I should send the Motives back and get the Strange gears, or if I should just keep the Motives.
Please post your experience with either brand, whether or not they broke, how long the lasted, and at what power level.
I have an M6 with stock GS-Cs. Currently 329RWHP with a lid and cutout.
Thank you very much.

Relax so they made a mistake.. I~m sure they can tell the difference. Is it neccessary to immediately bash em in the post title?? Suppose you`re perfect and never made a mistake huh?? WEll congrats to you MR. Perfect
I`d keep the Motives anyway.. Strange gears are LOUD in my experience.

If you're going to break the stock rearend it's probably not going to make a bit of difference what brand of gear you're running. As to how much power the gears will take, some run 10s with 'em (A4s), others bust 'em bone stock with M6s.
Me? I'd never put a dime into the stock rearend with an M6 if I planned on any hard launches with stickier than stock tires. My money would be saved for a 12-bolt.

Thanks for the replies.

What I said was that Thunder couldn't tell the difference between Strange and Motive gears based on what I order/paid for and what they sent me. Of course this is an exaggeration, but why does everyone have to come running to defend the sponsors? So because I was shipped the wrong parts I have to get attacked for supposedly being called perfect from a guy with the nick 'Superman'? Come on.
I understand people make mistakes, that is what this was, but also understand that is really pisses me off when I have to take time off of work and spend extra money to fix someone else's mistake.
So my options are either:
1. keep the Motives that I was specifically dissuaded from buying from someone at Thunder and get my $25 back.
2. take 2 hours off of work so I can get to a Mailboxes etc. and have them ship the gears back to Thunder so I can wait 2 more weeks to have them installed.
Hrmm, why shouldn't I be able to vent a little, and ask the board whether or not the difference in quality is something to be concerned about?
When I buy a product or service and it is great, I post about it and recommend that product/service. When I buy a product/service that sucks, I should have the right to post about it.
Finally, if I would have labeled the thread "strange vs motive gears in stock rear-end" - I would get about 0 reads and my question wouldn't have been answered.
I called Thunder and they are going to send me Strange Gears and I will send the Motives back. They were very friendly on the phone, and they are paying for the shipping so that is cool.
They have righted their wrongs. As a side note - their price on the gear package is really good, and it literally comes with everything a person needs to do a complete gears swap (including shims, bearings, oil, studs, etc.)
p.s. No hard feelings - I just wanted to further justify my feelings.

LOL you can vent only problem is that when you say a bad thing about a vendor it kinda sticks eventhough they just made what may be an honest mistake and try to take care of it as best as possible
To answer your question I haven't had either but from all the searches I've done on gears Motives have a decent rep and people have had problems with both brands Just like everything else aftermarket some have great experience some hate em! I'm probably going to go with Motives very soon since my 6spd conversion.

I guess the only sponser we can really say anything against is LG with his cams

Honestly, I rather have the Motives. Better chance of being quiet. Regardless of brand, one nasty wheelhopping launch and they're toast anyway so they might as well be quiet in the meantime.
