How to adjust Auto Tran Cable?
You'll probably have to replace the cable.

It's cold, barometer is high and the car is ready to run a new best with my new cam in and advanced. I can't let this problem stop me!
It will suck if you have to replace the cable. That thing is a PITA.
I just looked through my service manual, and couldn't find anything about adjusting the shifter cable.

It's just got to be adjustable. I guess I could drill the bracket holes bigger where it mounts on the tranny pan and slide it forward just a tad.

All you have to do is remove the two pan bolts that hold the bracket to the pan. Once the bracket is off the transmission then squeeze the two hooks (they are visible with the bracket in place) and pull the plastic retainer that incoporates these two hooks out from the top. Once the retainer is out the cable just pushed back and forth which changes the spring compression and adjusts the shifter. Very simple once you got it figured out.

There is also a big U-clip like a big staple in the assembly too.
Cable is like $30 and took about 30 minutes to swap... Once the cable is messed up you have to rig it to stop it from moving.

Once you remove it then you can adjust the shift lever. This adjustment is simple once you know what to do.
But if the assembly gets stripped out by the bracket, then you experience the problem you have.
I had to change a cable and I just followed Helms.
