go read the stickies about gears and stalls.. you MIGHT gain .05 on your time and about the same oon the mph.. spend your money and time on something else.. unless its the LAST thing you have left..... if it were me.. i would leave it..

I agree.
I have a limited budget, so it's about spending money wisely. For the average person, a gear install costs around $500 by the time you factor in labor and parts. If it comes to me maybe getting a mph off of a $500 mod or putting that towards something that's gonna net a better gain, the choice is obvious.
That's all I'm saying...if he was getting an aftermarket rear, I'd say yes 3.73...if he was coming from 2.73 I'd be like, hell yeah, do the 3.73s. But I do not believe the gain is worth the money coming from a 3.23. Or rather there are better things out there for the $$.

I'm not saying that small gains here and there aren't important. I'm saying the money is better spent elsewhere. Would you rather spend $500 on something that gets you half a tenth, or spend $500 on something that gets you two or more tenths?

i had a 3600 VIG on my 99 TA with ls6 HC and switched from 3.23's to 3.42's bc i had a set sitting around and was rebuiliding my stock rear with moser axles...
major difference, dropped from 12.6 with a 1.8 60ft to a 12.35 with a 1.75
the best thing about teh 3.42's is I am at 6500 rpm going into 4th at the end of the quarter, i can only imagine that teh 3.73s will perform as good or better with the 3600 stall.
really low gears (hi numerically) are only for dedicated drag cars.
IMO 90% of what is posted here on ls1tech, is posted by clueless people reposting some bunk information they read from somewhere.

I had 2.73's and I put in a 3800 stall and 3.73's at the same time. I can't even begin to imagine how steep each gear would feel after feeling the quick pull of 3.73's. Given you have 3.23's so I'm sure its alot better than 2.73's feel. Plus I drive mine everyday, it locks up quicker, and I wouldn't want it much looser than it is now.
For me it was worth it. Stall+gears= .8 and 4mph in the 1/8th

id do the 3:73s if you can do it your self. I found some used 3:73s on here for $75shipped then a basic install kit was only $50. So if you can find a good deal and do it yourself a gear swap doesnt cost much. I only have $125 into mine. I dont know that you will pick up a whole lot in the 1/4th mile though.
