Then buy the 12 bolt for around 2300. If I was to do it all over again tho I'd spend the extra money and get the fab 9 from midwest which wasn't available when I bought my rear 3 years ago. If I was in your shoes I would just gamble and keep the 10 bolt until it broke then buy another one to get you buy until you can step up to a better piece.

i wanna do it right the first time, but i dont want to spend a fortune! if i went with a 9" would it be more cost effective than the 12 bolt, or will i have to change mounts and stuff like that?

Cheapest way I have found after researching for a couple years is as follows:

A) Moser 9" housing/Axle package specifically for a 4th gen f-body w/Ebay center section

B) Used 9" or 12-bolt for a 4th gen f-body off a member on here looking to sell

C) Watch for Midwest's "New" custom fab. 9" housing/axle package that will be comming out soon w/new pricing made for 4th gen f-bodies

Every other option available is to either buy a brand new rear end from a performance shop & dump at minimum $2300. Or attempt to take a rear end from another car weather it be a older 12-bolt, 9", 8.8 or whatever you try to use & make all the fabrication changes to fit in our cars.

Some people have gone the route of modifiing a old rear but there is alot to doin that. If you have all the equipment to do it with & you are very talanted at custom fabrication, then yes you could make one fit cheaper than buying a new or used rear made specifically for our cars. But if your not one of those people your gonna have to drop your car off somewhere & pay someone else to do it all. And in the end you still won't have a piece as nice as the ones made for our cars & you'll probably end up spending more money than you planned on.

Not a problem man. I am one of the many people who build on a budget, so I have researched most the cheapest ways to do alot of mods to these cars & still end up with a solidly built machine.

That's your best bet right there, just be patient and wait for the right deal to come along. I gave $1500+my stocker for my Moser 9", it had 500 miles on it, 4.56 gears, 35 spline axles and Detroit Locker. No way I could have afforded a new one.

A good way to do it is to pick up the Moser 9 inch housing and axle package that I sell for $1000.00 shipped, equipped with the torque arm bracket and ready to bolt in.

Next you need to find a decent used center section to bolt into the housing. Ford pick-ups are a good source for a decent center section. Bob

This is what im planning on doing. Is it pretty easy to find a posi-trac center out of an older p/u. what kind of horsepower are they generally reliable to?? I just cant justify $2500 for my weekend playtoy, that may get to the track once a year.

The pick ups generally have a stronger center, I know guys are using them at the 500 hp level without any problems. Bob

so if i went that route, do you think it would hold ok w/ slicks, cam, b/o's and possibly a 125 shot or so? that may be my best bet if i cant find a used one thats up for a decent price! im favoring the 9" but should be ok with a 12bolt if it came down to it!!!!

THANX FOR ALL THE HELP GUYS

Yes, I think it would handle the power. I'd go that route before I would go with a 12 bolt. Bob
