373 not worth installing

Sorry if I am confusing. All the interest in top speed at 6k or redline in third was because I was trying to evaluate MattIroc's car which has 3.73 and hits 112mph in 3rd at 6k which I was using as a guide but didnt seem right. As TopFuel pointed out since he has a stock converter this seems impossible. Dont take the 0 to 60 litterally,30 to 80 real quick is impressive too. I just want SOP torque from a roll or dig. I dont have it with 2.73. I was just inquiring about the traction of 3.42 vs 3.73 from a dig or roll. MattIroc seemed to have the answers the problem is in working the thread he thinks he may have found out he has 4.10 and didnt know it. Again thanks and sorry.

Seems things are going a little left. I guess you have been reading. Funny thing is in watching the vids I assumed you redlined at app 6k letting the trans shift and not shifting manually. That being said if the tach is way off wouldnt you or the trans really be shifting at say 52-54-5600rpm or whatever the tach is off? That doesnt seem right either. I hope someone with answers reads this post. Let me know how you shifted in the vids.
I just ran the numbers through a net calculator and came up with a 9.7 % slip rate for the converter does any one know if that is normal??

I kept it in OD on all of those vids you watched. On my other 98 TA, when I had it dyno'd, it was dead on 6400 where my tuner's showed the same. It was a 6spd, but had a slipping clutch. I don't think my tach is off, everything seems normal.

From what I read in the trans section 10 % is normal loss or slippage and the charts from fbody.org-gears are made without slippage so if I understand the slippage adds app 600rpm so you are really 5400rpm in 3rd at 112mph just like the chart says for 3.73 gears.

Do you KNOW that, or do you THINK that?? Just curious. Most people seem to say stop at 3.73's for the A4, but they've never had 4.10's.
You're only talking a difference of about ~250 RPM between 3.73's to 4.10's for cruising speeds (even upwards of ~80 mph). For comparison's sake, look at this:
@ 80 MPH
2.73's = 2000 RPM
3.73's = 2750 RPM
4.10's = 3000 RPM
Obviously the biggest jump is from 2.73's to 3.73's. That little bit extra upto 4.10's? Not so bad!
When I went from 2.73's to 4.10's in my car, my 100% highway mileage dropped from about ~24 MPG to ~20 MPG. What would 3.73's have offered? Maybe ~1 MPG better?

I can't convince myself of the "there's no big difference between 3.73 and 4.10" argument. Because then there's the people that say "there's basically no difference between 3.73 and 3.42" or "3.23 is prettymuch the same as 3.42." So then all of a sudden with that thinking, 3.23's aren't that different than 4.10.
FWIW I have 4.10 in my 79 ElCamino with a th-350 and that cruck is bad news on the highway lol.
To the OP, it all comes down to what you can deal with on the highway. Whether you get 3.42, 3.73, or 4.10 you can get them all to hook with decent tire and suspension and your car will feel much faster than the 2.73

Well TORK I guess on the highway I can deal with 3.73 but on the street I cant deal with 2.73 and I cant buy 3.42 and 3.73 so enough playin around Im goin with 3.73 and aint lookin back ! US Gears on the way!
