Default Tranny Help.... ASAP

Ok, here is the deal.....Tranny has no gears...

I swapped converters to a 3600 Vig from my 2800 vig. When we first put the converter in it did not go in the whole way.. We bolted the tranny up and notice that the flywheel would not spin.. We unbolted the tranny and tested the old converter and then installed the new one.. They both spun with some force. Bolted the tranny up and then the converter....

Did a shift kit. Some things on the video and the instruction sheet from Transgo did not match what I had, so we did what matched and did not change what we did not have. Everything seemed to go back together fine...

We put the car up on Jackstands and started the car. We shifted it through the gears and it dropped into gear. We then put it in 1 and let off the brake, the wheels spun... It seemed to have all gears. Even reverse was fine... Took the car out on the road. The car seemed to shift fine in OD, but when I tried to manually shift it, it had no 2nd gear... It would shift into third manually. I tried it one more time, when I tried this time the car did not shift to 2nd nor any other gear.. It is as if I have all neutral gears....

Checked the Fluid - It was ok.

Linkage was ok

Dropped the pan and nothing was loose..

Any ideas what could have caused this? The car drove for a little without 2nd, but all else seemed fine, then it all just stopped.

Sounds like the same situation i am having with a converter swap. Check my post about the 4400 swap. So far we believe it is either that my converter backed out or it snapped the converter bolts. Does anyone know if the stock bolts are torque to yield because we reused them.

my converter is still on the flywheel/flexplate.... The difference that I am having compared to you is that the clearance was not that bad, also I lost 1 gear "2nd" before any others.. Not the same thing as yours...

Thanks, anyone else?

Most likely you hurt them when you bound the converter in between the tranny and flywheel.

hey 99tws, around your manual valve (where your shifter cable hooks to the tranny) you'll find a pipe plug in the side of the tranny, pull the plug out, start the car see if there is oil (tranny fliud) coming out of it. If no fliud, you've lost your pump) Hope this helps.

The easiest and cleanest way to check my theory is to check the fluid before you start the car and then check the fluid after you start the car. If the fluid goes down then the pump is working, but if it does not then the pump rotor is broke.

Well, you all were right.. The front tabs on the pump were laying in the bottom of the pump. The tranny is at the shop now getting rebuilt to the tune of $500.... Should have it back on Thursday... Hope all goes well with it this time........
