Default Moser Problems *Please Respond*

Okay, what is the deal with the Moser 12 needing to have the driveshaft shortened??

Does anybody have any info on this? I have been told that if the driveshaft is not shortened it will tear up the transmission. This is bad.

So please post up if you have changed to a Moser and have had problems with your tranny. Also tell me how much I should shorten my driveshaft to insure my tranny doesnt get wrecked this season. Or if I even need to shorten it, if those few transmissions were just a fluke.

Please help me, the car is going to the dragstrip the first week of may!!!!

I have the 1350 yoke. We are putting the rearend in today, but the driveshaft is gonna be too long!!! Freaking Moser should of said something about the DS having to be shorter!! NOT HAPPY.

So I will have to get my DS shortened, if thats possible. Which means, shortened, welded and rebalanced. But how much shorter? There is a place in town that does driveshaft work. Hopefully I wont have to spend an arm and a leg to get the work done....if they will even do it of course.

I need a definite answer on this!!! How much do I shorten the DS???

I put mine in over the winter. At the same time I did the LCA brackets. I welded the brackets on before I painted and installed the rear. Drive shaft was to long when I went to install it.

Got to looking around and the angle that I welded the brackets was not great enough, which pulled the rear front. I cut the brackets then while the rear was under the car, rewelded to recenter the rear. Drive shaft goes right in now. There is about 1 to 1 1/2" play at the transmisson so I think its ok.

I don't know if the years make a difference but I have the 1350 yoke in mine.

Good Luck

Talked to Moser a few minutes ago. Seems that shortened driveshafts are for lowered cars. My car is on drag springs and shocks with this install, and my Eibachs are coming out. So I guess this is a disaster averted.

Anyone that is interested. A local truck shop quoted me $45 bucks to shorten the driveshaft and balance it. So you have a price reference if you run into binding with your setup.

Thanks to all that replied!!

My ds was too long, not by much, but I think it was mainly due to the LCA brackets I welded on before putting the rear in. Had a custom one made that was about 1/2" shorter. Besides, like someone already said, that stock ds isn't going to last long anyways it'll just be the new weak link in the drivetrain. In my case I had a custom length 3.5" x .120" alum. ds made with spicer 1350 u-joints and spicer slip yoke.

Do what you want, but I don't see any sense in leaving the stock ds in there especially if your planning on drag racing it.

Hey Jason,
The LCA brackets will bring the rear in closer to the tranny. You might put your control arms to the stock location so you can use your stock driveshaft. We used LCA brackets and the stock driveshaft and haven't had any problems...you could barely get the the driveshaft on but never had it hit into the tranny. Give me a call if you have any problems.

before i got my denny's ds. i had a moser with the billet 1350 yoke and put the conversion joint on my stock driveshaft.. no problems at all.. eibach pro kit.

its pretty easy to put it up in there and see for yourself how much room you have on your particular application.
