I bought 2 quarts of AMSOIL + their additive, which set me back almost $35.

I found out after the fact that one of my bowling teammates on league is a dealer for them and we got to talking.

Now the reason it's so expensive, he explained, was because it is supposed to last a lot longer. I think he said 100k miles? He also claimed it could drop the temps by 40 degrees.

I went on to ask about the fact that my aftermarket cover does not have a magnet and the assumption is you change the oil out more often since it has easy access to drain/fill.

He claims that I should not have metal shavings because it's due to metal touching which AMSOIL claims does not occur with their gear oil.

I don't want to pay $35 a pop for something that wont perform any better than 5$ a bottle Mobile-1 if I'm not taking advantage of the benefits (I do want to change it once a year).

Anyone have any thoughts or disputes to these claims or opinions?

As long as you still have the stock Torsen T2 it came with you should be fine.
Are you using the "Severe Gear" Amsoil, and which weight??

Even though some claim it is best to just use a good mineral based dino gear oil and change it out OFTEN, like I do.

BTW; where exactly do you find Mobil 1 gear oil for only $5.00/bottle??!

75w-90 was what I used. I think it was just the long-life synthetic.

AutoZone had the Mobile-1 on sale for like $5.99 or so when I was shopping around. Normally it was like $7+ I think.
