Default Help! Driveshaft question TH400 and 9 inch

98 Camaro LS1 TH400 and mosr 9 inch

Can anyone tell me what length driveshaft they use with this combo?
I measured from the rear seal of the trans to the front of the pinion yoke and get 48.25, had a driveshaft made and it seems to me that its too long.
I Realize most combos are different, but is this in the ball park?
any help appreciated!

That is how we measure them. The rear tires need to be on the ground to get an accurate measurement. Bob

I measured according to the diagram, using x = 48.25,
the rear end was jacked up though, is that a problem?

If you sold me a shaft, what would the length be?
or would you use my length "x = 48.25"?

I have to move the yoke in order to the driveshaft in,
drove the car and have a vibration, there might be 1/2 - 3/4
inch sticking out the tail shaft.

Thanks

Yes, we would use the x dim if you supplied it. If the rear was jacked up by having a floorjack under the rear, or jackstands placed under the rear so the weight is on the rear, you will be okay on the measurement. You don't want to get a measurement with jackstands under the frame, with the rear hanging down without weight on it.

With weight on the rear, and the rear u joint straps removed, you need to be able to shove the driveshaft forward into the transmission 3/4 to 1 inch.

Hopefully this makes sense, I'm still on my first cup of coffee!!! Bob
