The torque arm mount is heavy, It moves the torque arm forward and to the drivers side which could causes some clearance or rubbing problems. I was glad to sell the moser rearend I had. Then I replaced it with the midwest rearend. My old rearend actually had a broken weld around the axle tube this year. So I would say a back brace is a good investmeent with a fabbed rearend.
The new Moser M9 is a fabricated rear-end that ways about the same as the stock 10 bolt. This rear came out last Fall, and we have one in my Z28.

I'm sure the moser M9 is a nice peice. I was just trying to state the difference in between the fabbed rearend I have and a standard moser 9" which I owned last year. I would not considering ever putting the standard 9" back in after seeing the stregth and weight savings you can get with a fabbed one.

fab9 hands down! Lets put the price in perspective here for me.

moser 12bolt/9in is $3200
spohn TA is $585
LCA relocation brackets is $80
weld-on swaybar mount kit is $73

for a grand total of $3938

Midwest Chassis fab9 rear is $1650
TA is included
LCA relocation brackets is included
swaybar mount kit is included
Complete centers iv found as low as $800

grand total is $2450

Now i just got my fab9 housing from Midwest Chassis and its $1650 and it came with all thoes extra parts already on it. The swaybar mounts are welded on already, actually has 4 different positions for relocating the LCAs and not just 2 AND its all intergraded in the rearend so no parts slapped on and welded in. Its all done on a jig so you know its right. So it would be pretty stupid to go any other way. Also i like the idea of NOT having to use a bracket bolted to the 9in to run a stock style TA. And i used the Spohn TA for pricing because thats the quality of the TA that comes with the Midwest rear, rod ends and chromoly, so its the same piece. And just look at the pimp factor!!

I got all that. plus a center section for 2875.00 and didn't have to wait for 3 to 4 months..

Don't get me wrong though. I have heard some good things about midwest, and I was seriously thinking about buying from him. But the turn around time kinda made my decision on who to go with.

Just in case people reading this think you bought a standard Moser 9 inch, I want them to know the rear you bought is a Moser M9, like the two pictures above. Bob

This is what I got in my fabricated 9" rear:

31 spline axles
3 channel ABS
3.89 gears
Black powdercoat
Built-in anti-sway bar brackets
Built-in LCA relocation brackets
Iron center section
TrueTrac differential
Fill/drain plugs
Chromemoly transmission crossmember
Chromemoly torque arm

Moser/EPP price: $3600 shipped
Midwest Chassis price: $2975 installed

For everyone who talks about how great a price they got on their Moser piece, it just makes me

Moser/EPP wait time: ships within 2 days
Midwest Chassis wait time: variable/up to 4 months

If you need a fabricated rear built right away and you're willing to pay an extra $600+ for it, then the Moser is the way to go.

I think these two pieces are "similar" in quality, but there was a couple things about the Midwest product that I liked better (besides the lower price).

Overall, I was able/willing to wait, and I'm glad I did. Again, if I had needed something right away, I probably would've gone a different route. Also, from what I gather, Midwest's wait time isn't going to be what it is now for too much longer.

If you compare apples/apples the Midwest is cheaper. Period.

And I'd put the quality of the Midwest against anything out there....

The install for me went very smooth... couldn't have asked for a better setup for any price.

Thanks Eric!

I like to would add that Moser WILL take care of you if you run into problems. Standing behind their product is a BIG deal to me. I had an issue with my M9 & Moser jumped all over it (& now it works for everyone).

The only drawback to an M9 is how the TA fits with the Y-pipe if you want to use the lower holes. (street cars only)

Tell Tim I said thanks again Bob. They make a sweet product!

Good deal. I talked to Eric and he says he installs them in four hours. Thats pretty quick. I bought mine from him, but with
1. backbrace
2. aluminum center
3. billet pinion yoke
4. 4 channel
5. fill and drain
6. 3" driveshaft
7. Tru trac
8. 3:50 gears

It all came out to right about 3650 shipped. It was quite a bit less expensive than a moser m9 for sure.

With all due respect, it's cheaper, and it LOOKS cheaper. I got my M9 bare and the craftsman ship is second to none. I had to borrow a digital camera cause my fiancee had mine at the time, but I will post some pics of the bare M9 to compare to the midwest pics in this thread when I get the cable for that camera.

Before someone says that's my OPINION, I have been in the machining/fabricating/welding industry since 1998, I know quality when I see it.

I'm not saying Midwest is junk, just to make that clear.

I received my Fab 9" today and needless to say what a quality piece of fabricating it is. I look forward to the install tomorrow.

since when did this thread become a M9 vs. Midwest fabricated 9 poll?

i will put my housing(and torque arms) in a stress test up against any other manufacturer's bolt-in f-body housing any day of the week.

keep in mind... every one of these housings is custom built to customer's specs...BY HAND, ONE AT A TIME. maybe you need to see one to appreciate it.

if you have been at this work for 10 years... why didn't you build your own?
