Default Help Me Choose a Ratio

Hey right now I just got my conversion done over to the ls1 and t56. All i have to say is wow 3.45 gear is not cutting it anymore witht the 6 speed.

Engine Wise Im Running:
2000 LS1
224/224 112
QTP Stage II Heads
Full Bolt Ons

Tranny is
T56

Rear Ford 9"
3.45 Now, Cruises 1500 at 60mph with 275/40/17s. The car feels quick but a rear change would make it a whole lot better im sure.

As for the track I have a different set of wheels I will run
Draglites with 27*11.5*15 for rears.

All the time at the track it will either be 26 or 27 inch slick.

I'm planning a 4.10 ratio and was looking for some insight from you guys. At 60 with the cam its alittle surgy now.

4.10 -4.11 would be a good gear for what you have and the tire I would think. Thats what alot of the m6 guys are doing.

I may have a freak of a T56 but I have 4.56 gears in my 9" and I tach 2200 at 80 in my TA. It takes off like a freaking shot too. I yanked tire with some mickey thompson 17's and my stockers on the front. I have a T rex cam that loves the big end too so for your set up some 4.30's would be perfect with a 28" tall tire.

all i have run in my m6's are 4.10's and i love them. i cant comment about anything lower cuz i have no experience. but a lot of people say not to run 4.10's in a4's, but i did and i loved it. but at a minumum i would go with 4.10's. you may want to get some feedback from some guys with lower gears. and you might want to include what you want to do with the car...dd, strip, weekend car. im sure that will have an influence on what gear you should go with.

yeah id say go with the 4.11, seems to be the best that works for me, quick as all get out off the line, but get up on the HW and cruise around 1800-2000 does decent for MPG

Personally, I went with the 3.90s as a blend of track performance and streetability (+ gas mileage).

With your mods and on that tire, would you cross the line in the quarter mile still in 4th gear? I've been debating on going to 4.1x's with my 9" rear swap, however I don't want to have to shift into 5th near the end (which may or may not be an issue).

how do you like the 3.90 from the 3.42 im just worried it wont be enough of a jump but im not sure if i want to go 4.10 either. cant seem to pick between the two right now.

Well Raced a gto that was s/c and first and second we were even, but third he overpowered me. Hopefully 4.11 will be a winner.

I would say 4.10s....

I ran some 4.30s for a while, but planned on running 28's at the track...

I've got 4.30. That's my pick. Driving around town I shift 1...3...5. 2100 rpm at 70 on a 26".

No bandwagon for me....

I went with 3.70s and love them. 6th gear is more usable than my stock 3.42 and I'm not stroking gears as often as the 4.10 guys....

There was a NOTICEABLE gain in acceleration going from a 3.42 to a 3.70...

My philosophy is, build enough motor and you don't need a real tall gear...

I did with mine but off the rev limiter just past the markers (12 bolt Moser). I recently installed a FAB9" with 3.89's so I'm not sure what to expect running the MT ET Street Radials.

It all depends on where you shift. With a after market cam you should be spinning higher anyway. A 28" tire helps also.
