I have only th gasket now and its leaking.

So i am thinking about getting a new gasket and using the blue gasket maker stuff. Someone told me to use just the gastetmaker and ditch the stock gasket. Does that sound right? This is for a 3.42 10bolt.

I use black RTV, just a thin layer and install the rear cover (actually we did one last night on an LT1 car), it saves the cost of the gasket and if applied properly (to a clean surface), they never leak).

Just my thoughts....

I'm still on my original gasket and my axles been apart about 5 times in 45k miles. RTV will work fine though.

I usually use both. Extra security, but when I changed the oil in the rear end right after I got my car, there wasn't any RTV or a gasket. It was bare metal to bare metal. No leaking though for some reason.
