The spoiler wasn't designed originally with the car, that is why it looks so ******* horrible. GM designers are morons sometimes.

If you are trying to impress people, then buy the $40,000 plus 5th gen Camaro. If you are interested in speed then buy a 4th gen. The GTO weighs 3800 and the 5th gen about 4000 lbs. GM cars keep getting heavier! You can do the same mods to a 4th gen as a 5th gen for alot less. For instance, Detroit Speed wants about $1000 for lowering springs and sway bars for a 5th gen. What is it, a BMW you say??
Lets see what the new 400 HP plus 2011 Mustang prices at. It weighs 3500 lbs. Besides, keep in mind the 5th gen has a McPhearson pogo stick front suspension and IRS rear axle, not a drag racer's delight nor a circuit racer's.
You would think with an IRS, the front end should be dual control arms with coilovers. Oh well, time to consider a Watts link.

Where should I start...
Price...MSRP 1SS= 30,995 2SS= 33,995. Far from 40k plus.
got my car for 32700 OTD thanks to GM rebates. 1SS with BA sound system upgrade
Weight... They weigh 4000? The manual transmission SS weighs 3849.
The new mustang 3500? nope wrong again. Its weight is listed at 3603 (In M6 GT form which is what you meant because you said over 400hp...412 to be exact 390 torque). 246 lb difference.
price for the new mustang? should be within 2-3 k of the camaro like always equally optioned.
Only get the camaro if you are trying to impress people? what kind of statement is that? we should all buy ugly cars we dont like? WTF? Buy the camaro because its what you want, just like anything else in life.
If it is speed you want just find any old decent rear drive v8 platform and mod the hell out of it. Or a 4th gen or a 5th gen...whatever you want buy it.

All of OP's choices are at different price points, and the newest 4th gen is now 8 years old.
Honestly I don't like to see folks talk down about 4th gens, they were fantastic cars to modify for years - They are just older now, are cheaper, and sure, they are not as nice as 5th gens. Time passes.
I think the real comparo is a new 5th gen vs. a LS3 C6... Now that's a hard choice I think.

I am really torn here. I would like a new camaro but it would be like buying my gto all over again as far as weight and performance. The ls3 makes it tempting.

I was considering an Ls3 vette or '10SS myself. Ultimately, I decided to stick with what I have and mod to taste. I guess I just had the itch, but it ended rather quickly when I decided that a stalled a4 with suspension upgrades will suit me perfect. It's funny how our minds change from week to week. Hell even from day to day lol. Find out what you really want to do with it and then go from there. Research on here is easy and you can pinpoint EXACTLY what you should do/get for any application. Good luck.

if you are looking for more than just perfromance, then get the 2010 camaro or the GTO. they both ride great and have great interior, better than the vette or f-body IMO.

with that said i bought my 1ss/rs m6 with polished wheels for $33,379 out the door. so i guess the dealer is screwing me and secretly sending me a 40 grand bill in the mail, ill make sure to watch out for that. show me where the mustang weighs 3500 lbs? and where mine weighs 4000? i wouldnt say you could do the same mods for A LOT less, but i guess it depends on the person and they're interpretation of a lot.

OP, if you decide on the GTO. Realize that you most likely will be putting money into it to fix the stock suspension. If you get an M6, a new clutch is almost a must, as the stocker is designed for a lighter car and can't take to much of a beating in the GTO. You do get a nice car though, and one that is really easy to get LS3 power levels out of. Most of these cars are out of warranty though while the Camaro won't be. If the dealers in my area weren't putting insane markups on the Camaro my decision on my car would of been much harder.
