actually the new 5.0 is 3600lbs and the camaro is 3850... anyways I would say its a drivers race. The new stang is a nice ride for sure!! The sad thing is even with all this new technology out, the 4th gen ls1 is still the best bang for the buck. All this added weight is killing gm's new found power. My car in sig is only 3250, so it does with 350whp, what the 5th gen will do with 400whp. Thats the part that kills me about the 5th gens...

I for one applaud Ford for finally stepping it up after all these years.
The 2011 is an impressive car for sure, no argument there.
But I still like the Camaro 10X better, it looks so much better IMO.
The motor speaks for itself, its an LS, come on now.
Competition is good, it keeps products from getting stale.
The GTs performance stayed the same untill the Camaro came along.
In the the real world, it will be a drivers race as has been stated before.
And dont think GM is just laying back watching, they got somthing coming, they always do.
Just let Ford have their time in the sun for now, its been a long time coming.

I think the mustang looks better, mostly because the front of the camaro, I liked when the turn signals were on the outside of the headlights like the concept.... Also different grill. Another problem is it's HUGE!!!!!!! It needs to be physically smaller, it's a good car which was designed for older people who can afford it...

hey! some one get's it. it is stupid to have this dick measuring comparison, especially when it's the same thread every day about a 5.0. obviously some guys are scared that the 5.0 is the new top dog or it wouldn't be on hear day after day like a seinfeld rerun. i understand it's great what ford has done, took them 15 or so years to finally catch up to chevy. i don't hate the new 5.0 at all, think it's a nice car with a good motor. but when people knock the new camaro because it runs a 13.3 in one mag and the new 5.0 ran a 13.2 in an other mag, people say it's the best thing since internet ****.

Personally I like the new 5.0, Camaro, and Challenger. All are, or have the potential to be 12 second bone stock cars on a night of good DA and a well prepped track.
I'm sad that Pontiac is a thing of the past, and yes, on good nights, the GXP is also a 12 second bone stock car.
Right now, the 5.0 is the flavor of the month. Unless you can buy a Camaro that includes a Megan Fox package, it will be until Chevy bumps up the Camaro hp. Rumor is that the Challenger will move up to a larger hemi within the next couple of years, which will make it flavor of the month. All you guys know how this stuff works, it isn't rocket science. Until I see the larger hemi Challenger and Z/28 being shipped to dealers, they are just rumors. Maybe solid rumors, but rumors.
A lot of old school guys will understand when I state we are living in great times for performance vehicles. Between 1975 and 1984 you could not even get a 14 second car, unless it was the Vette, or some foreign car like a Porsche.
YOU GUYS NEED TO LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE!
Either way, I freaking hate rice!

The question is this, can we make a muscle car (400 hp minimum) that passes all the regulations, keep it <3500 pounds, and sell it for $30,000 to $35,000? There are a lot of highly educated engineers working for the big 3, surely someone has some sort of ideas.

Good driver, negative DA, and a good track, it's possible.
One thing I have learned over the years is that negative DA is very important. My 09 auto Vette was supposed to be a 12.5 second car, but in great weather at Houston Raceway Park, I ran a 12.15 bone stock.
The magazines rated the GXP at around 13.1, but I ran several 12.9's bone stock with a best of 12.933 during the winter at HRP. But right now, my car is around a 13.teen car, while in the winter it was a 12.9 second car.
Yes, it's possible for the SRT8 Challenger to hit very high 12's in good weather.

What if the mustang is almost max out on the motor. Who knows maybe thats why their motor are forged either for high compression or for a blower (that customer will tend to put on). I dont see this mustang making 500rwhp with heads and cam swap.. Maybe 450rwhp but thats it..
