how can anyone say these are evenly matched motors when one is missing 1.2 cubes? i'm not claiming to be a rocket scientist or doctor but 5.0 is smaller than 6.2.

sorry guys, gm needs to step up or forever be put down.

Gm and ford have 2 different ways of making power, one is original pushrod tech with more cubes, and the other dual overhead cams and higher revs! Just because its a smaller engine does not mean much! The goal is the same so they can be compared... sorry...

Yes because we all know that the 4.6 mod motor is so much better than the 5.7 LS1. How can HP be comparable when C.I. is so different? Who cares.

Agreed look @ the LT-5 in the old ZR-1 w/ 405 hp back in the late 80's early 90's but the Camaro does need to go on a Diet !!!!!!!

I agree, but I love it still! Only If this car was about 300lbs lighter, then it would hang with the vette though and that will never happen

you must be on crack..... Have you seen the size and complexity of that 5.0? The simplicity and compact design of the ls is much better overall. Not to mention the ls makes more power na than a mod motor will.

I'll take torque any day of the week. Thankfully GM stayed with pushrods and cubic inches. I had an 08 bullitt, loved the car but zero power.

This thread sounds like a lot of people are hating on the new 5.0s. Maybe a little envy? Ford did a good job on the new 5.0s IMO. And whoever posted a termi eats 5.0 exhaust is a bit confused.

no hate here. The new 5.0 engine isn't that great. The way the tranny is geared really matches the engine great and the body is'nt a overweight pig like the camaro. Overall the stang is a good package.
If gm would get their head out of their *** and make a lighter camaro with proper gearing it would be bye bye mustang.

Really? My over weight pig went a string of 13 teens at near 110 with a DA of near 2600 feet, thats 12.7X's at sealevel. My 2000 Z/28, which I loved, went 13.3X's at 106 in the fall air with a lid and flowmaster exhaust. I have a friend with an 11 5.0 that stock went 12.8X's with a stick in spring florida air and with a dyno tune,CAI, 4.30's, boss intake and drag radials has went 11.7X's. Awesome cars, I wanted one but wife nixxed it and said if we get a new car it better be a camaro!

It would take more than 300lbs for the Camaro to stay w/ the Vette. My Vette weighed only 3135 lbs w/ out driver so i would say 500 lbs would do the trick and if they do it someday i will b back in a Camaro again !!!!!

+1 on the camaro losing weight. If they can make the vette that light then they should be able to make the camaro the weight of 4th generations. GM did a huge bo bo by making it such a pig! I will never buy one. Ill stay with my 4th gen and when the ls1 goes then a ls3 will go in.

car companies care about car sales more than performance and even with the new 5.0. i think mustang sales are down. but the new 5.0 is a runner.
