2014 SS Auto
So just made me mad, but found out the SS I just bought does not have the LS3 like I thought as it is an Auto car...
Any upsides or downsides I need to know about?
I guess ALL the Auto SS have the L99??
Anybody heard of pulling the fuses to reset for 91 octane??

Yes but L99 auto's are faster than LS3's! Look at my sig.

L99 here also, just picked it up on wendsday... Loving it so far.
I'm hoping to add full exhaust (headers-to-tips) as my first performance mod to help get some power & sound out of this automatic 6.2v8!

So the L99 has VVT, is it a pushrod engine? Its not overhead cam right?
Also have you ever heard of the dealer using 87 octane and the engine detunes accordingly?
Do you run 91 octane all the time, they told me we could run 87...

Make sure the engine and ignition are turned off.
Locate Fuse Panel in front of the passenger's side front strut tower and
pull the cover.
Remove #5 and #20 (15A fuses)
Let the car sit for at least several hours. (overnight is preferable)
Install #5 and #20 (15A) fuses.
Install Fuse Panel cover.
Restart vehicle and enjoy.

I have never ran anything but 93 octane! It will run on 87 but not recommended. I don't know if the 2014's or like the older 5th gen Camaro's and will get stuck in the low octane table if you use 87 octane. But if it does you will have to do a fuse pull over night! Before you do this make sure you have at least 91 octane fuel in it!

Anyone have specifics on how the VVT works on the L99. Does it perform the function with variable lifters?

The only thing the VVT does is retard the camshaft. The DOD operates 4 pair of lifers to go into 4 cylinder mode.

Sorry for 100 questions, just trying to gain any knowledge into these engines. I was pretty familiar with the LS line and like I said that's what I thought I was getting...

Displacement on demand or Active Fuel Management. Turns the L99 into a 4 cyl at cruise. Easily disabled with a tune or Range device. Any tune should be considered carefully as they all leave footprints that can lead to warranty problems or loss.

I'd recommend a good Cold Air Intake when you do the header install.

I decided against headers & tuning for now..
Just going to stay warranty friendly for now & installed a Borla ATAK catback & Range AFM delete.
Next on the list is CAI.
Going back over this thread I just learned about this 'octane fuse pull' thing Hmmmmmmmmmm...
When I bought the car they gave me my 1st 2 gas tanks for free... They took it around back for a wash & gas refill.... I am sure they used the cheap stuff (87), now... Since then i have been putting 91, about 5 tank refills now.... So my car might currently still be detuned from the 1st 2 tanks of 87??
Maybe I should give the fuse pull thing a try....

Yes all 5th gen Auto's are VVT L99's with AFM but L99 are equal to LS3's in the performance department the only bad about the L99 is the AFM and that can be tuned out.
