Again.... I agree with you.

The new Camaro is little more than a retro re-skinned GTO.

It will probably have a similar run to the GTO.

since the one major detraction of the gto is its exterior syling I don't see why you come to this conclusion. as you can see in this poll the vast majority of the people on here really like or love the looks of the 5th gen. 70% give it a 7+. I'd say GM nailed the styling.

Lets see: It has a different body, different chassis, different motor and all new 6 speed trannys (A6 and M6). It's the same though...

Beauty is subjective. You, for example, could like fat chicks; whereas I'm more the tall, skinny, blonde chick kind of guy. You don't like the way it looks. Ok. Most camaro people do.

OK now.... don't be saying I like fat chicks.

but I am hardly alone in my dislike for the new Camaro.... title of this thread.... and several others that have posted don't like it either.

Only time will tell.... but I really have to question GM bringing a retro on line when it is such a sharp departure from the 4th gens.

There was a similar stir up when the new mustang was unveiled, some liked it, some hated it, how did that turn out?

More than 75% of the people on here gave it a 7 or higher. You are in the minority I am hating to tell you. I don't know. I saw the challenger in person last night and I didn't really like that car from all the pictures, but it was cool in person. I said to my buddies, "If it was 600 lbs lighter it would be the coolest car on the planet."

and that means what? absolutely nothing.
75% of the people like the car they see right in front of them. When I had my 4th gen the numbers were lower than that. I got compliments from how it sounded and how fast it was all the time...but rarely on the looks of the car. I had all the tasteful items in the looks department covered in that car as well. tint, chrome zr1's, billet grill, red badges etc....just about as nice as you could make a 4th gen look IMO. Didnt seem to help much in about 50% of peoples eyes.

seeing that 75% of the people are digging this car is a very good sign

When I got my bird I got compilments on it all the time. I even had a couple of guys come up to me in the mall. Told me they saw me park my car downstairs. I thought they were going to tell me someone hit the car or something but they simply had stopped me to say, "That is one bad *** car!!!!!"

You got a nice looking car.

But IMO it is less than average for a v8 equipped firebird. you have no ram air hood and the old style front end with rims that came on another car and were never offered on yours...a big tacky no no in my book. Although I think the z06 style rims look ok on a 4th gen camaro...its not my taste to mix up parts that were from different model cars. You have the c6 style correct? I would have went with a nice aftermarket rim or some chrome firehawk rims.

And before you say anything...my rims were the 98-99 SS style...which came on the zr-1 as well except the rear zr-1 rims were 17x11. I just referred to them as zr1 style because that is where they originated.

but to each his own. for the one millionth time...looks are subjective. And in this case...75% are digging it. The poll for a '10' is also way out in front by far. cant argue with that. Looks like most people like the car whether you like it or not...sorry

I don't think I would say it is less then average. True no ram-air(although that has crossed my mind).... but other than t-tops(could also be changed but I don't know if I would) and no TCS(don't want that anyway) I have every other option on a v8 bird. It also does not have a limiter on it either.

The rims were not on the car when I got it. No way they could have been. I have had the car since it was brand new. It only has 45k on the odo.

They are c6's and the c6 z06 rims were not avabile yet when I got the rims. And I don't like the older Z06 rims.

I don't know that I would have went with the C6 rims but I saw them on some T/As here and thought they looked good. I have gotten compilments on them as well. I think GM should have put 18's on the cars from the factory.

I mainly only did a rim upgrade to go over to 18" rims and wider tires. Only other rims I had in mind at the time were the EVOs but I didn't think they looked as good.

Once again I do not like the new Camaro. I have seen the car in person at Carlisle last year and it does not do it for me. I think GM has really missed the boat and a great oppurtunity for something more retro. In an earlier post someone said retro is not in??? Why is the Mustang and Challenger selling like hot cakes?? Why then bring back the Shelby name with the GT 500??
Anyway now that I've vented I'm going back to my search for a new Z06.

Your response = fail since they were talking about firebirds and whether or not to make them from a re-badged camaro there. More of a different crowd too.

I wouldn't buy a Challenger if it was the last car on earth! 42K+, 13 or less mpg, 4000lbs+, not worth it! The dealerships will not let you buy one with the 425+hp hemi without the SRT package that is way over priced! The new Camaro SS will be less than 42K and with the same if not more HP.

Btw, Both are ugly!!!
This new Camaro is a car that isn't design to be retro. The head designer that developed it wanted to have both and I'll tell you the truth, this car is fantastic if you ask me. I saw the two, Camaro and Challenger side by side and Camaro wins hands down! And who is the clown that said this car is a re-skinned GTO! BTW, the designer of this car is also the designer of the Corvettes!

I am that clown.... my point was that the new Camaro is akindred to the GTO from a few years ago, so it is little more than a re-skinned GTO and will last about as long.

Btw, I don't care if the designer also designed the Corvette.... they certainly missed the mark on this one, if it wasn't designed to be a retro because it looks like a retro. And an UGLY one at that, IMO. Although, I will say it looks better than the Mustang. Yea, I know GM says it is a "modern interpolation" on the 1st gen. What do they think the word retro means??? That is what retro means!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is a sharp departure from the 4th gens and with its retro looks is why I simply don't like it. I HATE retros anyways!!!!!!!

For you guys that like it.... great, buy one when they come out.

I simply don't like it.... and I won't say I like it when I don't and I won't buy one simply based on the idea that it is a Camaro. Some people would buy a old VW if it had the "Camaro" nameplate attached to it..... I could care less what name is on the car, it is still UGLY.
