Default Uh oh, Launch control on the ss!?

So is GM gonna have the same issues as Nissan did with the GT-R?

I found this quote somewhere online about the features of the 2010 Camaro:

"The system on SS models includes Competitive/Sport mode that is adjustable for performance driving, such as on a racetrack; it also includes a Launch Control feature on SS models with the manual transmission. It enables quicker, more consistent takeoffs during performance driving."

GM isn't stupid enough to put a feature on a car that voids the warranty if you use it. And the Camaro transmissions have already been proven to be strong enough in Corvettes.

Nope will not void the warranty. The Turbo Cobalt SS has it and they have had great success getting those lil FWD cars the launch with it. As far as i know they use it all the time and never had any issues of failure, warranty cancellation, etc.

Why would you want to make your car slower? Just don't use it, it's not an automatic feature, you have to turn it on to use it anyway.

Supposedly it just adjusts the T/C for maximum traction, and will hold the revs to a certain RPM for best launch.

The GTR's problem is its gearbox is not strong enough to handle the stock output...

yea i understand that, but i was just thinking of the past. i know the 4l60e isn't the strongest. most go out around 80k you know....lets not get started on 10 bolts. i just was thinking of what has happened in the past.

it no lnoger sues a 10 bolt nor the 4l60e anymore though. it has potential to be a pretty stout drivetrain with a few electronic tricks. we will have to wait and see how it goes

I would like to try the camaro with a no lift shift...that would be kind of fun to try.

I am not going to lie...this launch control will be kind of cool.

Actually, my stock 4l60E with a stall lasted 122k miles with no problems. I changed it out when I built the 402 for a RPM stage 5. Also, my stock 10 bolt even lived behind my 402 until I swapped it out for a 12 bolt with gears. Again, it lasted about 127k miles with 5k of those behind a stalled 402 launching hard at the track. I just got lucky I guess.

Anyways, back on topic, the launch control sounds pretty sweet to me.

did you have your car all of those miles...i found out that my rearend was replaced under warranty after 22k miles, i had no idea.

when i put my stall in i found out my transmission was rebuilt a few thousand miles ago cuz the bellhousing had the mileage written on it when it was rebuilt.

I bought the car with 53k miles on it in late 01 from a Pontiac dealership. I'm not sure if the rear end or trans had been replaced, but by the state of the fluid that came out of the trans, I would say no. The rear end also looked like the oil had never been changed. I make sure to change the trans fluid, trans filter, and rear end oil every year. Like I said, I think I was just very lucky. I never had problems with either of the stock units.

The stability control cannot be turned off on 2010 and later vehicles I thought.
