Turbo V6 2010
Hey guys. I am really thinking about buying a 2010 camaro and turbo charging it. I figure look at the power the buick grand national made with the turbo off the 3.8l. Plus the car is a daily driver and nobody will ever expect it. Factory warranty? who needs one anyways if it's made right! But I want to get some input from you guys and if they make a six speed auto for the v-6. I am gonna reduce the gear ratio like by .5 so I can create some serious mid-reange power. LEt me know guys what you think.
P.s is it a IRS rear? from the pics it looked like one but I just wanted some clarification, thanks

AHHHH...no I can have more power and a better daily driver for less money. I already have a 460 horse car with a 6 speed I want a 500 hsp turbo car with a V6 cause NOBODY ELSE WILL HAVE IT! Thats the beauty. I love my 98 f-body but I need a car to drive back and forth to work so I can cut boost down and get phenomenal gas mileage as opposed to drinking gas everyday all the time. Plus I am getting married in a year and she has to be able to drive it. Are you saying the turbo exhaust note wont sound bad ***?

lets see the v6 runs 11.3:1 compression...yeah thats a boost friendly motor...and its backed by a 6l50 trans....that has a lower strength rating the the 4l60e....it will definately not be cheaper to boost a v6 though...different is not cheap id go witht the more reliable ss....

look at the ford with the tranny in the svo that was a piece of crap, but you got a point it never had a chance to see 500rwh lol. You think I was gonna just pull it off the line and slap a turbo on it? 22cc dished pistons and ported intake runners should greatly help

ok turbo... dished pistons, etc... and you think you're going to be able to do it and do it right for less than an ss will cost? not likely. i understand wanting to be different but to do it right you'll EASILY have as much in it as a base ss... and it'll ALWAYS be worth less since its a base model. the ls3 is a HIGHLY under rated hp/tq motor. just look at the numbers people are seeing w/ a tune ONLY on em.

Speaking from experience.
My v6 is almost a full second faster than my ls1 in the 1/4. (v6 is an auto)
Its gets 20X the attention at cruise nights.
A dumped waste gate turns more heads than a v8 rumble.
Even as an auto, its just as much fun to drive.
Gas mileage after tuning was mid 30's.
11.3 C/R on a direct injection motor is not the same as 11.3 on say the LS3, because of the cooling effect of the fuel.
500hp might be a little out of reach as far as reliability is concerned. but Good Luck.
Oh as for cost, I came in under 3500$, which at the time was a lot less than upgrading to the LS1.

i'm trying to help the guy see that even though his idea might be unique, it's not logical, seeing as the ls3 powerplant has much more potential than the DI v6. Nobody knows yet, what all is involved in turbocharging that engine CORRECTLY. i'm sure tuning is going to be questionable for at least a few years, to say the least. there is a good possibility of him losing thousands in replacing pistons or even shortblocks because guys cant tune the car right. there is a lot more to it than "throwing a turbo on that bitch".
