Probably for the same reasons why they equate anything V8 with poor fuel economy as well...simply a pure lack of education.
I think those types of (quite stupid) people would be downright flabbergasted by the highway mileage that a manual transmission Corvette (yes, an actual RWD V8 190mph performance car) could deliver.

FWD cars have less drivetrain loss, meaning a more efficent drivetrain. That's not to say that rwd are incapable of getting good gas mileage, just that it is easier to make a more efficent fwd veicle. The problem is that fwd vehicles suck.

I think it is a no brainer to build. At this point, the hard work and costly developing, is done for the most part. They might as well bring it out to recoup some funds. I have always heard that the GT500 is one of the bigest money makers per unit for Ford. I am sure GM can turn a pretty penny on the Z28 as well. If they do come out with it they will make my next car purchase even more difficult.

I agree^^^.
They should just tell the .gov that the car aids them in being profitable, the goal of the whole bailout plan.

My aunt was complaining to my cousin when he said he wanted to get a Trans Am, "Why would you want to get a V8, its impossible for them to get anything better than 20 MPG"

As the only V8 she'd ever had was a Suburban... and most people who have ever had a V8, only had them in 4500 SUVs or trucks

If it uses a Camaro platform and CTS-V driveline, that is by no means cheap. They might cut down on new manufacturing costs, but it would still be hard to get it priced for most people that are looking for that car. Don't get me wrong I'd love to see it happen, if I was going to buy a 5th gen I'd probably wait for a Z28 regardless... It'd be interesting to see the underlying costs in producing a car like that...

that drivetrain in the cts-v is not as expensive as one thinks. yes it if more expensive then a ls3 but dont forget you are also paying the "caddy" tax when you buy a V.

Anytime you can share the driveline with another model you save on cost per unit. The GT500 still makes good money, and it is the only model with that drivetrain. That is all I was getting at. The LS3, LSA and LS9 share a lot of common parts as it is, nad it will be cheaper to source LSA/9 parts with another 8-10k units going out the door.

Yes, lets not put into production a car that many people actually want to buy from us. As opposed to producing numerous mediocre cars that people don't really want to buy from us.

Brilliant thinking GM.

Expect this type of backward thinking at GM as long as the current CEO and cronies are running the place. They seriously need to jettison them and put in fresh blood whose pay is based on performance results. It makes me sick to my stomach to think they are still there continually f-ing up the company.

Yeah that's a hot car. I would think even building a few, with off the shelf parts like the LSA motor, shouldn't cost too much, and could help improve overall brand awareness. But hey what do I know. I wonder now if they'll even do a convertible?

I bet they wait for the launch and see how sales go with the SS, then bring in the Z/28 in 2011, pending good sales figures and better economy.

If I were an executive for GM and I knew for sure the company was going down. I'd make sure the one thing I did before i left, would be to release this Z/28. Something to remember GM.

I'd do it all just for you guys...lol

It's the same hood and front end, trust me . The rest is different for Bumblebee because there are no production parts for any of it. Motor Trend has a rendering, Bumblebee has the only "real" parts ATM.

it wont happen.

this is NOT the kind of car GM needs to save itself. this would only sell a few and the time it would take to recoup the cash of making it would take far to long.
