Cam selection? And Oil/filter for 2010 SS??
Due to the nasty weather in the midwest, my recently purchased IOM 2SS will be hibernating in the garage until fair weather... I plan to use this time to complete my first round of mods, which will include a cam and supporting components, headers, and full exhaust. Speed Inc. is not too far from me, and I will be having them do at least the cam and full dyno tune. My question is for any of you out there who have done just a cam swap - I'm looking for input on cam size, and brand for that matter. I'm running an M6 by the way.
Larry at Speed Inc. has recommended Stainless Works headers and exhaust, but after looking into MBRP I kind of fell in love with their setup. It seems to have a great sound judging from their youtube videos, but I have yet to hear anything in person. I also kicked around the idea of dropping $400 or so on an axle back just for instant gratification in the sound department, and then doing some more research to find the best header/exhaust combo. Any input here would be a big help as well.
Also, I hear Texas Speed is still working on their own headers and exhaust? I've run some of their stuff on previous cars, and really liked it. If they came out with a cat back with the option of sweet thunder chambered mufflers I think I'd be all over it! Does anybody have any information about this?
Lastly, what are all of you running or planning to run for oil and filter? I believe they come with Mobil 1 in the pan? And I'm pretty sure I read somewhere about the ability to use a longer truck filter?
Sorry for all of the questions, but I've been out of the f-body game for about 2 years, and of course the new Camaro and the LS3 are a little different anyway.
Thanks in advance for any input!!
Scotty

Yeah, I think with any aftermarket cat-back, headers, and a tune you will see good HP increases. Maybe I'll swing up to Speed Inc and see if there is anything with the Stainless Works on it that I can listen to before spending $1000+

Recommend in the below order:
CAI: Rotofab or ADM Performance (Street or Race)
Headers: ARH 1 7/8" with High Flow Cats or SW 1 7/8" with High Flow Cats
Axleback: MBRP or Magnaflow (Magnaflow if your serious about that cam, your ears will thank you later I promise!)
Superchips handheld or Custom tune (Handheld until you have a need for full on custom tune)
Cam: Lg Motorsports (Specific cam PN # will depend on your future goals)
Intake: Ported stock LS3 OR FAST 102mm with NW 102mm TB (Depending on future goals)
Forced Induction: Magnacharger or Vortech
Beyond that its suspension (BMR and Pedders) to commingle with your new found power.

Thanks, but I guess I am really looking more towards cam selection. I want a solid 500 at the wheels with cam, headers/exhaust, CAI and tune. Anybody out there have this setup that can give me some advice?

Thanks! I think I'll skip the heads, and 494 is close enough to the magic number for me. All I don't really want to tear into the engine much more than the cam.

Getting 460-470rwhp is easy to get with a mild cam. To hit 500 rwhp, you're going to need a pretty healthy sized cam. Just don't fall into the trap of running too big of a split between intake and exhaust if staying NA. A cam in the low to mid 230s on intake will be needed, but you'll need to be careful with intake valve opening point to avoid piston to valve clearance issues. About 30 degrees BTDC at .006" is the safe IVO limit for P to V clearance with the huge LS3 intake valve.

Sweet! Thanks guys, you've all been very helpful. I will be going to Speed Inc. for all of my tuning needs, they are not too far from me. If I can swing it financially, I'll just have them do all of the work, but if I can make the time I'll do my own cam swap and header/exhaust install and just have them do the tuning. I will most definitely be going with the Texas Speed system, looks to be a well built exhaust at a great price!
