Default LS3 Conversion, Cam Heads+Misc

I am in the process of doing a LS3 conversion on my 2010 Camaro L99. I removed the engine so I could do some paint work on the engine and in the engine compartment. This project is going to take a few months so I will post updates as I go.

The cam is a custom one designed by Patrick G along with a Yank 3000 converter. With a little time and effort these engines can look great.

I also replaced the factory baffle with one from Improved Racing.

When I say conversion I am referring to installing LS3 parts into a L99.
On the GEN5 Camaro SS, the L99 is paired with the Automatic transmission. The L99 also has variable cam timing and AFM. The LS3 is paired with the manual transmission. It has the traditional roller cam and lifters.

The process is converting from a L99 to a LS3 involves replacing the cam, lifters, front timing cover, center valley cover and turning off the AFM via a custom tune.

The Improved Racing baffle helps to keep oil at the pick up under hard cornering situations.

The cam sensor is the same between the L99 and LS3. The short harness and front cover must be changed.

Is that something you are likely to run into in street driving too or do you plan on auto crossing and open tracking the car as well? Also does it work with the stock pickup and windage tray? I assume it does.

I think the baffle is a bit overkill for street driving. It is really designed for the track. It does install with the stock windage tray and pickup. The installation is very simple. With the oil pan removed, the stock baffle is unbolted and removed. The Improved Racing baffle sets directly into place and bolts into the factory holes. The oil pan bolts on just the same.

Okay.

So you were doing just for piece of mind and because you had the oil pan off an way.

I am going to be porting the heads with new stainless valves, plus new Patriot dual valve springs.

Here is a picture of the center valley cover detailed and painted.

You doing the porting yourself or are you sending them off?

I am asking questions to keep this section alive. I don't want it to degenerate into nothing but sponsor messages and arguments about how the 5th Gen cars are too big and heavy.

Have you upgraded your trans? I have heard the A6 has some durability issues and that's why Chevy went with a lower power L99 rather than the Ls3 in the auto.

I installed a different transmission filter. The pickup is twice as big as the stock one. This helps to prevent pump cavitation at high RPM. I also installed a Flex-a-Lite external transmission cooler. I will also be installing a Yank 3000rpm converter to go along with the cam.

Are you running the Flex-a-lite cooler in series with the stock cooler or as a stand alone?
