GM should have some designers spend some time on this forum (Anonymous) and get a feel for what enthusiasts are hungry for.
To name a few points:
1- Beefier differential (solid not IRS)
2- Easy engine bay access
3- Frame provision for true duals
4- 6 speed manual designed so you cannot miss-shift or a 5 speed Triptronic paddle shifted
5- A 4 Ohms stereo/cd so you can upgrate speakers without trashing the head unit.
6- 6L Z28 base and Limited number SS with the 427
7- 3000 lbs max (can you say Carbon Fibre)

Leave the modding to us
i kind of like the idea of a retro looking car something that definitely says that its a camaro

what would ya rather have a car that definitely says that its a camaro or a car like the new GTO only says that its a GTO because of its name?

i think the pictures look great i think they combine just enough retro to know that its a camaro and a fresher look so it doesn't closely resemble a late 60's camaro and dont get discourage about these leaked pics there is a reason that gm is pissed they got out because those pics probably aren't that close to what the real finished car will look like im sure it will look awesome when they are finished with it

I agree, if they fix the front end. And tweak the rear end.

Are you saying GM is pissed because they think (based on these pics) that we will think the new Camaro is gross? And if these pics aren't close, then the real new Camaro might look completely different. I think it will look more like these: (which are pretty close to the ones we've been looking at)

But I still like this one:

Guys, please do not post any more pics of the clay model concept that are floating around. Apparently GM went around yesterday and asked everyone to please remove the photos. So, we will not be allowing them again.

Thanks,

I definitely like the last one too.. Now to address predator.. A solid axle isn't for everyone.. of course we like it, but there are people out there that don't intend on modifying this car, also a 3000 pound camaro won't happen so forget your 3000 pound MAX, it's not like we won't make power to weight anyways... remember they have to make the cars for everyone not just people who intend on modding the **** out of them. Everything else sounded good though.. Easy access to the motor.. you mean we could actually change our spark plus in 5 minutes?! Also I hope they make it true duals out of the factory.

Nine Ball, are you referring to the pics I posted. Those were not from the crop that were recently banned (because I have those). The pics that I posted have been around since the spring of '04 (I think they came from a magazine article). I apologize if I unwittingly posted banned pics. This was not my intention.

I agree with you, people can complain about the whole "retro" thing and GM listened when they made the GTO, maybe it should've been a new design but development time and cost probably would have increased. The new stang however has been selling relatively well, it does look a little too much retro, and people still bought it even though it is less aerodynamic than the last gen. I think GM is using the best of retro so camaro fans know they have a camaro but then they are incorporating modern styling so it will look more modern than the stang and challenger. I love it and come summer 08 I will be preordering my camaro as much as I want a vette I think I will end up going with a camaro.

No, those pics are renderings not actual clay models. Those pics have been hosted thousands of times and are fine for hosting (IMO anyway). Kris Horton probably loves it that his renderings are still floating around even years after he first did it.

And yeah, forget the 3000lbs weight. The Vette isnt even 3000lbs (close...but not quite). It'd cost a bit too much to make a pony car be comparable with the vette in weight. Leave it in the 3400-3600lbs range and that'll be sufficient w/ a 380+hp V8 matted to it. IRS - I actually dont mind. Might make for some more fun twisties. True duals - DEFINATLEY! How many LSx guys swap out to TDs? It almost seems like a "must have" mod now-a-days.

as long as the new camaro shares lines from previous generations we will be able to call it a camaro. if u pay attention u can follow the camaros evolution through the generations

Maybe you have more of an artistic sense than I do. There's hardly any resemblance between successive generations of Camaros. I don't see any reason the new one has to look like anything before it. I'm not into the whole retro movement. It demonstrates a real lack of imagination and short term market strategy that will ultimately lose money.

That said, I like the 5th gen concept pics floating around, but not because they look like a '69--but because the thing looks fast--like my '97!!

I noticed some resemblences over the gens, gen 1 to 2 some models carried the spoiler subtle but there on some. not a whole lot else though imo, gen 2 to gen 3 the camaro had similar tail light styling and the bodies showed a resemblence except the gen 3 were more squared, gen 4 lt1's carried similar head lights to gen 3's, and to me the way it felt when you sat inside was pretty similar, ls1's evolved off the lt1 platform. gen 5 seems to carry the infamaous pointed nose found on camaros in general. While they are all drastically different it seems there are subtle hints generation to generation.

Very true. I agree.

Anyone that can't see the evolution from gen to gen either isn't looking close enough or just can't notice details.

Meh, everyone has a styling opinion. AS I understand it, Settlemyer and maybe another GM wig do peruse these boards. I'm sure your concerns have been heard. Unfortunately, if they catered to everyone's desires, there would be umpteen different camaro's running around when/if they do ever reappear.

Finally, as stated, they must appeal to the masses in order to turn a profit. Simply look at the rustang's sales figures.

The Vette has a cult following and doesn't need huge sales #'s to turn a profit.

Just like the PT Cruiser, the 'stangs sales are dropping off pretty rapidly. Same for the 300C. This was not the case when the LT1/LS1 came out. Their sales declined slowly over a long time because they didn't look dated so quickly. Heck, they still look fresh today! I'd be happy if they'd just pick up where the 2002 left off--just reduce the body gaps from 1/4-1/2" down to 1/8" like the Japanese and Europeans and lighten the inertia of the drivetrain to rev faster/higher.
