Default 2009 Camaro Weight

What will the 2009 Camaro weigh? Will the IRS make it a pig? How much more than a 4th gen? Is it the Zeta platform and if so how does that compare to the prior platform used?

Thanks

I would like to know the weight as well as if the concept had duals or a catback. Anyone know?

Concept had true duals, and Chevy needs to keep the weight under 3500!!!

Under 3500 at a maximum. Target should be around 3300, so that it still stays under 3500 w/ all options.

agreed under 3500. Lighter the better. Maybe even have a drag pack version with less sound deadening & lighter brakes & wheels and tires.

over all the camaro concept is about 6 inches shorter than the caddy, 3 inches shorter in between the wheels, but it is also +3 inches wider than the caddy, so any weight saveings will be negligable, with roofline is slightly lower, but overall i would still say the car will be atleast 3600 lbs.

Federal crash standards are going up as well. Especially in rolover and side impact. All of these are goingto hrt the weight. People also like stupid options like navigation (heavier than a paper map), seat warmers (fine in a sedan, not a muscle car), and all th other crap. 3500 or under will probably be a miracle.

I was at the Detroit show on Saturday and asked one of the GM reps in the Camaro display what the expected weight of the production car would be and he said "Around 3600-lbs." He walked away, then came back and said while smiling "IF, it goes into production."

3600 is entirely too heavy, GM must be out of their F'n mind. I do not want a truck I want a light car. GM has to make a stripped out version of this car. 3600 will negatively affect performance and fuel economy. It will be like driving a truck.

i dont know what trucks you drive...3600 wouldnt be bad at all since the challengers/shelbys are over 4000 and a truck is 5000-6000 pounds

3600 with an ls2 would be pretty decent..especially with all the features the non-car-enthusiast consumer expects in a modern car

According to the caddy site, it's just over 4000lb.

i hope it comes in under 3500, but i wont get my hopes up. whats the GTO weigh? everyone talks about it being heavy, i thouhgt it was about 3600lbs, but i may be wrong.

they need to keep in inline with the 4th gens weight at most

My Lord what is happening to cars these days.

My 1983 Firebird 350 weighed 2,900 pounds at the strip. My 1991 Formula 350 was 3,340 and my 1998 Trans Am was 3,450. You would think advances like hydroformed rails and the like would off set some of this Federal pudge.

Screw this, I'll get a Lotus Elise and figure out how to put an Ls1 in it

Im still thinking heavier than 3700, i'd say closer to 4000 but not quite there, the IRS, gov't regulations, and comforts are gonna kill this cars weight
