What GTO? Woulda been nice if they sold it here in Canada.

Very glad to hear the Camaro is coming to Oshawa . I know there are/were a lot of guys pumped to get the Camaro back State-side, but Oshawa has a great reputation as a very productive plant with high quality output. And it's ~5 minutes from my house. Regardless of WHERE it's being built, at least the Camaro IS RETURNING!!

Oshawa has an excellent track record for quality, so I'm not real worried... not to mention that it's not like the American plants were a head and shoulders above the Canadian ones.

But the '67 - '92 F-bodies were models of "exceptional quality"??

Dude, c'mon, half of the problem was the PARTS, not the builders. But if there were any problems with the actual workers, keep in mind, they were French! (it was built in Quebec - the province that wants to seperate and go on their own - not here in Ontario )

The Oshawa car & truck plants have been award winning for years. If GM designs the parts right, the cars will hold together for a long time ... don't you worry!

If that plant is quality, great! My 92 and my 92 were build better than my 2001. On my 01, Ive got tons of rounded/ stripped nuts, bolts and screws. Ive had to fix so much little crap it isnt funny anymore.

Give me a break. I've been all over my '02, and the only nuts/bolts that are rounded or stripped are ones that I'VE touched, and even then, pretty much everything unbolts nice and easy anyway.

Have you had your car since brand new?? Maybe the previous owner messed around with the car. If you want to keep believing that because the car was Canadian built is why it's a piece of crap, then I guess that's your opinion .

I believe I read Oshawa is GM's #2 ranked plant in quality. I'd rather it be built in Canada than in Mexico.

I've owned three 4th gens.. bought one new... put about 65,000 miles on the three of them... and I can't say that I've had any real complaints.

I ordered it. I can take pics of my 6 K member bolts that are rounded.... My A/C / heat switcher was only screwed in by 1/2 a thread. Ive had to refit most of the plastic in the car. I would rather have my 2 thirdgens back than my 4th anyday.

Maybe since the new plant is a quality one, theyll do it good.

I have to disagree 100% with that statement. The overall interior/exterior fit/finish and quality of my '89 was crap compared to my '98, '99, and '00.

Actually, it (#2) was ranked the highest of any plant in NA (not just GM) by JD Power for initial quality in 2002 and 2006, and #1/#2 are #1/#4, respectively, in productivity among all brand's plants in NA. IIRC, #1 was second in build quality. I'm not at all concerned about the build quality.

I also would consider trading my 02 for my 91, but not because of build quality. The '91 had a lot of build qwerks, and a few rattles, but it was the fact that it was more of a raw car that made me like it, not to mention that I like the overall looks of the '91 just as much if not more than the '02.

I was definitely pulling for a USA plant (Wilmington), but Oshawa's track record for build quality is simply outstanding!
Because of that, I'm happy with the decision.

Nope.

Not sure what they were doing in the 2nd gen years, but the late 3rd gens came from there. Van Nuys was building F-bodies until the end of the '92 model year.

At some point during the mid-'80s, both the Norwood, OH plant and the Van Nuys, CA plant were turning out F-cars.

There is good and bad no matter where the car is built, sometimes you just get a lemon. Although I would love to see the car built in the U.S., there are major reasons GM is/has been building cars in Canada. And if that makes it more affordable, go for it. I've had a lot of little problems on my 4th Gens, but overall they are good cars... always fast at least. I just hope GM get's it right, I'm sure the Canadian plant will do a good job as long as GM does there part as well.
