The Camaro, through the 3rd and 4th gens that I know of, has always shared an engine that the Corvette had. They shared the same L98 350 in the 3rd generation. They shared the same LT1 350 during the first part of the 4th generation and the LS1 346 during the last part of the 4th generation. They have around the same HP, but the Vette is going to be faster due to weight, gearing and aerodynamics. The 350 hp rating for the '97-04 LS1 Corvette was just a rating, a rating that is actually "engine" hp for an LS1 engine. The 300-325 rating for the '98-02 Camaro was just a rating as well, a rating that is actually "rear wheel" hp because most of every LS1 will dyno 290-320 stock (whether it be a Camaro, Corvette, Firebird or GTO). It just depends if your car is a dud or not to determine if it's lower (around 290) or higher (around 320).

i don't think that the camaro will get an LS7 until there is something more powerful than that available for the ZO6. the camaro and 'vette have shared the same HP levels, but the camaro and the ZO6? think fourth gens: the ZO6 had an LS6. the camaro and base 'vette has an LS1. i think as long as the 'vette ZO6 has an LS7, the camaro will not. once something more powerful is created, then the camaro will get the LS7.

Yeah but the vette got the LS1 in 97 while the fbodys still had LT1. 98-01 Fbodys and vettes shared the LS1. So why wouldnt they have the LS7 available for a package by 09'? for the Camaro? Just remember the Z07 and LS9 are starting to be talked about. I dont see why GM wouldnt put LS7 in the Camaros at half the price of a new vette. 3 years after the LS7 would have been on the market by then Corvettes will probably be making 550 hp at least to compete with everyone whos trying to take a bite outta the Z06, and we cant forget the Corvette Blue Devil 600hp S/C Z06. So by 09' the market will be different and IMO I think the Camaro will have a LS7.

the gt500 is a limited production vehicle. it wont be made when the camaro comes out. but its not gonna take a ls7 to beat one. 500hp=cool! 4000lbs=not. 03/04 cobra's could wipe the gt500. so a lighter camaro with an ls2 could keep up if not beat the gt500. just my .02

Personally I doubt we'll ever see the LS7 as we know it in a 5th gen. Its hand made, carbon fiber, etc. it will simply be too expensive. I think it'd be cool to see a higher compression LS2 based motor.

If the Camaro is light enough it should hold its own, it wont pwn the GT500 like the C6 but w/e. Im sure the C5 Z06 can pwn the GT500 too.
